Job Description
Exciting Opportunity at MSK: Join our team as an Associate Director, Research Finance Management! The role supports programmatic initiatives and management of responsibilities of the Research Financial Management (RFM) Unit within the Office of Research and Project Administration. You will partner with key stakeholders within the division and across units at MSK. Serve as liaison and partner to faculty leadership of departments and divisions. This Associate Director position will support MSK research units that focus upon clinical research.
Role Overview:
- Monitor and provide strategic leadership and consult upon policy matters for the unit. Establish the control environment for central post-award grant and financial management of sponsored funding at MSK.
- Ensuring compliance with internal policies and sponsor regulations, finding opportunities, and fostering innovation to establish standard processes.
- Lead and coach individuals in the Manager, Research Financial Management, role with the aim to ensure consistency and quality of service delivery to investigators and other key stakeholders.
- Support Director in complex problem solving and leadership decision-making.
- Review and support process and policy enhancements to ensure the strength of organizational internal controls and their implementation.
- Be a key partner to department and division leadership by building partnerships, overcoming concerns identified, identifying trends to adapt before adverse impact occurs, and ensuring optimal service levels are provided
- Improve the resources, reporting, and training available to staff (including external stakeholders) to encourage the growth and development of research financial support at MSK
- Cultivate relationships, resources, and information to support faculty in ways that improve their efficiency in assessing their research portfolio and making decisions
- Uphold the highest levels of integrity for business conducted by RFM on behalf of MSK
- Think strategically about institutional needs, opportunities, and threats, and then translate strategy into meaningful action that advances the efficacy and efficiency of the research enterprise at MSK
- Effectively interact with a wide range of key partners in different roles, with an ability to understand different perspectives and apply critical feedback for continual improvement.
Key Qualifications:
- 6+ years of experience in a related field; preferably a research administration environment performing duties similar to the above
- 2+ years of management/leadership experience, preferably in a research administration environment performing duties similar to the above
- In-depth knowledge of sponsored research regulations and policy. Ability to translate that knowledge to others through coaching, mentorship, and standard operating procedures
- Impeccable integrity and constant consideration of stewardship of institutional resources
- Demonstrated ability to create process improvements, reports, and presentations with regard to legibility and high-aesthetic quality
- Sophisticated level skills in Microsoft Office and business intelligence products such as Tableau or Cognos

- An efficient communicator; with strong interpersonal communication skills, including writing, designing for presentations, and the ability to have direct, crucial conversations.
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality work output with attention to detail.

- Effective leader, able to motivate, apply emotional intelligence to a variety of interpersonal situations, as well as collaborate and team-build.
- Innovation and ability to exercise good judgment to solve problems and handle complexity with across a large research portfolio.
- Process improvement orientation with the ability to implement, delegate, and drive accountability.
Additional Information:
Location: Fully remote with no on-site time, consistent with the overall unit. An individual may request a hybrid option to allow some travel to campus.
