Overview

The 24/7 Cancer Care Clinic features an outpatient treatment area for patients to come in for scheduled appointments to receive chemotherapy, blood products, IV hydration, central line and port care, phlebotomy, etc. The scheduled infusion space is staffed with staff nurses and patient care technicians. There are also Nurse Practitioners in the Cancer Care Clinic who see patients in a patient care room setting within the clinic for symptom management concerns. This allow Oncology patients from the Siteman Cancer Center to receive care for some urgent needs. These patients are managed by the Nurse Practitioners and cared for the the staff nurses and PCTs. Additionally, when patients need to be admitted to the hospital, the Cancer Care Clinic begins the care for some of these patients who meet specific criteria.

Role Purpose
The nurse practitioner functions within their scope of practice, working within a multidisciplinary health team to provide comprehensive care to patients and families in an emergent or acute care setting. They demonstrate a high degree of clinical expertise working with patients with acute or urgent illnesses commonly encountered within the ED or the BJH specialty urgent care setting. The role demonstrates an advanced level of clinical knowledge, interdisciplinary collaboration, and systems-based practice. Minimum Board Certification(s):BJH: Adult-Gerontology Primary Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP), Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP), or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) BJH Women?s Assessment Center: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Women?s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP)SLCH: Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Primary Care (CPNP-PC), Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Acute Care (CPNP-AC), or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Preferred Board Certification(s):BJH Women?s Assessment Center: Women?s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) SLCH: Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Acute Care (CPNP-AC)
Responsibilities
Communicates and collaborates effectively with patients, families, physicians, medical/surgical trainees, and other health professionals.
Demonstrates the highest level of accountability for professional practice by participating in professional development, quality initiative/performance activities, and implementing standards of care within area of specialization.
Provides patient and family-centered, compassionate, appropriate, and effective care for managing and treating emergent or urgent health care encounters.
Responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion, and care coordination for patients and families with acute, emergent, or urgent specialty health needs.
