Position Overview
As the Chief of Surgery, you will oversee and lead a dynamic, multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing world-class surgical care to our veterans. This pivotal role combines clinical excellence with administrative leadership, offering the opportunity to innovate and shape the future of surgery at one of the VA’s premier facilities. In addition, this position includes a faculty appointment with the University of San Francisco at Fresno, providing opportunities to engage in academic medicine, mentor the next generation of surgeons, and participate in research and education initiatives.
Compensation
Salary Range: $350,000 to $400,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
Performance Bonus: May include up to $15,000 annually based on meeting performance goals.
Sign-On Bonus: Candidates may be eligible for a sign-on bonus.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all aspects of the Surgical Department, including clinical services, education, and research initiatives.
Ensure the highest standards of patient care and safety.
Mentor and develop a high-performing team of surgeons, residents, and other medical staff.
Collaborate with hospital leadership to align surgical services with the VA’s mission and goals.
Participate in academic activities associated with the faculty appointment.

Qualifications
Board certification in Surgery.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience.

The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is the largest integrated health care system in the United States, providing care at 1,321 health care facilities, including 172 VA Medical Centers and 1,138 outpatient sites of care of varying complexity (VHA outpatient clinics) to over 9 million Veterans enrolled in the VA health care program.
