Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Program Director for our Internal Medicine Residency Program in Philadelphia, PA. This leadership role is crucial for ensuring the continued excellence and ACGME accreditation of the program. The Program Director will oversee operational, educational, and administrative aspects of the residency, ensuring that residents receive a well-rounded education and training to succeed in their medical careers. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering an environment of scholarship, wellness, and continuous improvement in both clinical and educational settings.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational:
Collaborate with the Designated Institutional Official (DIO), Graduate Medical Education (GME), and program coordinator to maintain ACGME accreditation.
Prepare and submit required documents to the ACGME, ensuring accuracy and completeness (e.g., program information forms, annual updates, and Institutional Reports).
Coordinate residency Program Evaluation Committee's action plans and submit them to the DIO for Annual Institutional Review.
Assist DIO with the residency program's budget management.
Oversee the development of the written curriculum, goals, and objectives for off-service rotations in partnership with the Associate Program Director.
Ensure compliance with institutional grievance and due process procedures.
Monitor and address resident and faculty wellness issues.
Manage relationships with rotation directors and ensure resident supervision at all rotation sites.
Oversee the outpatient internal medicine clinic to ensure ACGME requirements are met.
Implement policies for resident duty hours, the working environment, and moonlighting.
Actively participate in Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) and other GME activities to enhance the clinical learning environment.
Educational:
Provide formal and informal teaching to residents and medical students in both hospital and clinic settings.
Develop and oversee curriculum for didactic sessions, simulation activities, and bedside education.
Lead the development of strategies to ensure residents perform well in in-training exams and board certification exams.
Verify residency education for residents, including those who leave the program prior to completion.
Promote interprofessional education and teamwork across residency programs.
Resident Competency Assessments:
Provide formal and informal feedback to residents, including semi-annual competency assessments.
Offer mentorship to residents and assist in creating individualized learning plans.
Participate in Clinical Competency Committee meetings to make decisions on resident promotion and remediation.
Develop and implement formalized coaching, mentorship, and remediation plans as needed.
Recruitment:
Participate in recruitment activities at national, regional, and local events.
Review applicants during the NRMP Match process and oversee interviews.
Participate in the final selection of residents for the Internal Medicine Program.
Faculty Support and Development:
Provide formal and informal mentorship to faculty members.
Evaluate and select appropriate faculty, ensuring the continued participation of qualified faculty.
Assist in the creation and delivery of faculty development programs.
Support faculty in their scholarly activities and provide ongoing support and education to clinical and core faculty.
Research:
Establish and maintain a dynamic research environment, promoting evidence-based clinical discussions and journal clubs.
Collaborate with the research manager to support faculty and residents in publishing research or case reports and presenting at professional meetings.
Qualifications:
Specialty expertise with at least three years of documented educational or administrative experience, or qualifications acceptable to the ACGME IM Review Committee.
Board certification in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM), or other acceptable specialty qualifications.
Current medical licensure and appropriate medical staff appointment.
Ongoing clinical activity required; a minimum of 50% FTE must be dedicated to non-clinical administration of the residency program.
