The Surgical Clinic Float Health Technician is a member of the Surgical Clinic team and provides assistance to the Surgical Clinic Providers and other members of the team during clinic hours and clinic procedures. The Surgical Clinic Float Health Technician participates with the clinic team members in planning and implementing clinic procedures under the general supervision of the Surgical Clinic Provider assigned. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/22/2025. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. Assist surgeons in minor surgical clinic procedures Assists team members with care of the patient, i.e. vital signs, rooming and positioning patients, prepping and obtaining supplies, sizing for compression stockings, setting up for minor procedures, catheter changes, and post-void residual scans. Assists with in-clinic procedures, including but not limited to the following: Gynecology: Hysteroscopy, cystoscopy, loop electrosurgical excisional procedures, tibial nerve simulator, ultrasound, and minor surgical procedures and act as chaperone for gynecological exams and procedures including, but not limited to, gynecology screenings, clinical breast exams, pelvic exams, pap smears, IUD placement and removal, and biopsies. Urology: Urologic exams, Circumcisions, Trans rectal Ultrasounds, Prostate Biopsies, Genitourinary Cystoscopies, Vasectomies, Cystoscopy Dilation, Uroflows, CMGs, EMGs, Voiding Trials, collecting urine specimens, Catheter Care, Catheter changes, GU tumor clinic, and other designated urology procedures and work-related activities. General and Plastic Surgery: Soft tissue mass excision, cyst excision, I&D of abscesses, Hemorrhoid banding, punch biopsies, Sculptra injections, wound care. This technician must be knowledgeable in the operation of urodynamic equipment in the performance of Uroflows, CMG's, and EMG's. The incumbent technician assumes responsibility for identifying, moving and positioning, prepping, and draping patients for clinic procedures. Responsible for obtaining and securing appropriate medications for scheduled procedures. Makes necessary judgment prior to the administration of medications. Inquires about patient's allergies before administering medications that affect the circulatory system. Maintains continuous observation of patient for signs of adverse reactions to medications and injections used for diagnostic examinations. Checks to see that the patient's blood pressure is within tolerance levels when indicated and notifies the physician or RN of significant changes. Supports all instrumentation management, utilization, and specialized tests in the Urology, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, and Gynecology Clinics, utilizing all technical skills required for diagnostic testing and/or therapeutic care of the patient, under the physician's supervision. The technician demonstrates knowledge of the full range of instruments used in the surgical procedures and is responsible for preparing, handling and maintaining these instruments and equipment. He/She must also be familiar with labeling, handling, and tracking pathologic specimens obtained during the various procedures. Utilizes universal precautions and follows all infection control policies and procedures when handling specimens, supplies and equipment. The technician is responsible for maintaining proper levels of disposable and non-disposable supplies and assuring that instruments are maintained in sufficient quantity and in good working order. It is the duty of the technician to assist in the selection and purchase of instruments, supplies, and equipment used in the Urology, Gynecology, Plastic Surgery and General Surgery Clinics. Incumbent is directly responsible for security, care, and maintenance of delicate and expensive procedural equipment, specifically disassembling, pre-cleaning, low level-disinfection, and storage. Follows all infection control guidelines related to these processes, including, but not limited to, maintaining separate clean and dirty instruments and/or equipment and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Incumbent is responsible for training new technicians and physicians in the use of said equipment.
