The Chief of Staff is responsible for supporting the Group President of Acute Care Services of Duke University Health System and his/her designees by facilitating and monitoring strategic and interdisciplinary initiatives and commitments, providing executive level support for system initiatives, acting as an adviser to ensure goals and objectives are being achieved and priorities are communicated effectively, and acting as a proxy when applicable. The Chief of Staff serves as a key organizer and coordinator, managing cross-functional projects, and acting as a liaison between the Group President and stakeholders. This role focuses on managing the operational, administrative, and project-related tasks essential to the Group President's success, enabling them to focus on strategic planning and organizational leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as a strategic sounding board to the Group President and other executives to ensure goals and objectives are achieved and priorities are communicated effectively. (Overseeing strategic business initiatives from ideation to implementation.)
Provide the Group President and other senior leaders with insight and analysis on the health system/hospital operations.
Cultivate a flow of relevant information with the executive team and other stakeholders.
Conduct research, gather data, and prepare summaries or reports to support the Group President's decision-making.
Assess organizational risks related to achievement of system priorities and communicate those to the executive team.
Manage action items from key meetings for completion and desired outcomes.
Collaborate with the executive team to determine and prioritize business strategies. Identify and solve core problems or opportunities within business processes.
Monitor growth and operational metrics and recommend strategies based on operational statistics and market needs and trends. Develop, monitor and communicate progress toward organizational goals.
Act as a liaison between key stakeholders to help troubleshoot and resolve problems.
This position requires on-site availability.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
A bachelor's Degree in a related field is required. A master's in Business Administration, Human Resources, Communications, or another related field is preferred. Five years of experience and a working knowledge of health care and academic medicine would be helpful.
Experience
A minimum of 5 years of management experience leading transformational initiatives is required in a highly complex, matrixed organization. A working know of health care and academic medicine would be help including professional roles supporting senior executives.
Preferred Experience
Exceptional research, writing and strategic analysis skills. Able to synthesize learnings from diverse sources ranging from academic literature to conversations with internal and external experts to one's own experience to arrive at recommendations and plans on special initiatives.
Comfort managing many ongoing, complex workstreams to completion at any given time with minimal supervision and to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines.
High capability to "manage through influence," work collaboratively and gain buy-in from cross-functional teams.
Demonstrated ability to derive conclusions from large amounts of data and understand the practical implications of recommendations.
Proven ability to work efficiently and independently in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders.
Preferred Skills
Proficiency in productivity tools, such as Microsoft Office Suite, project management software, and collaboration platforms.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to identifying and solving problems.
