Overview
Northwest Permanente is seeking a Business Intelligence Consultant in our Analytics department.
The Business Intelligence & Analytics Consultant supports Northwest Permanente Analytics' vision, mission, and strategic goals by developing and delivering innovative analytic solutions that drive decision-making, action, and positive outcomes. The incumbent is skilled in many steps in the analytic process and works with direction on analytic projects from inception to completion. The incumbent is an expert in large domain/functional areas, the data landscape, and cutting-edge technology, ready with the knowledge and skills to rapidly recommend and execute analytic solutions to business problems. The consultant typically works under the direction of the manager and/or a more senior consultant.This is a hybrid position that is a blend of working both remotely and in office. Must reside in the Northwest Service Region (Oregon or Washington).
Major Responsibilities / Essential Functions -
- Serves as an analytic and technical subject-matter expert, maintaining deep knowledge within 1 or more complex areas of focus/domains.
- Maintains a deep understanding of operational, clinical and/or administrative functions and processes for areas of focus.
- Maintains expertise in the data landscape and cutting-edge technology, ready with the knowledge and skills to rapidly recommend and execute analytic solutions to complex business problems.
- Develops innovative analytical solutions to business problems and questions independently as an individual contributor.
- With direction, completes complex projects and analyses and delivers well-crafted and data-driven stories/presentations of findings to educate customers and leaders on trends, challenges, and opportunities that influence decision-making and action.
- With direction, works through the full life cycle of analytic and/or technical projects from conception to execution: requirement gathering, data exploration, extraction, cleansing, enrichment, visualization, validation, synthesis, and interpretation.
- Assists in translating problem statements into analysis/reporting and resource requirements and/or thoroughly reviews/interprets regulatory requirements and specifications.
- Assists in making recommendations on best quantitative approach and design and obtains requirement sign-off from customers.
- Ensures quality, clarity, and applicability of deliverables and that they meet customer expectations, regulatory requirements, and/or department standards.
- Assists in communicating deliverables to customers, providing clear and concise explanation of data delivered, and ensures progress reporting throughout life cycle of project.
- With direction, develops key performance indicators and work with operational leaders to establish targets.
- Monitors key performance metrics & identifies risks, barriers and opportunities to manager and/or director.
- Adopts and implements standard methodologies in data infrastructure, reporting and analysis.
- Partners with data engineers to build, enhance and maintain robust data assets including documenting business requirements and conducting UAT.
- Detects data quality issues, identifies root causes, implements fixes, and manages data audits to mitigate data challenges.
- Assists in the establishment and maintenance of standard metric definitions including implementation and maintenance of tools to support standardized metrics and data definitions.
- Assists team members to ensure continuous development analytically and technically.
- Assists in educating customers and peers regarding appropriate use of data and BI tools ensuring accurate understanding, interpretation and insights of data.
- Participates in the adoption of and socializes data products with end users through user training.
Minimum Qualifications -
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Healthcare Administration, Economics, Analytics, Public Health, or another applicable quantitative field or equivalent education and experience.
- Four (4) years of experience in data analytics.

- Proficiency in visualizing complex analytics in simple, logical, and compelling ways.
- Proficiency with analytics and visualization software such as SQL, SAS, R, Python, Power BI, or Tableau.
- Proficiency in working with relational databases, data extraction and manipulation language, and programming.
- Ability to translate business questions and requirements into analytical and technical solutions.
Preferred Qualifications -
- Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Healthcare Administration, Economics, Analytics, Public Health, or another applicable quantitative field.
- Four (4) years of data analytics experience within an integrated healthcare organization that includes hospitals, clinics, medical group practices, and a health plan.
- Experience with EPIC.
