The VA Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS) is seeking a Chief of Pathology and Laboratory to join the Chief of Staff and the Executive Leadership Team in fulfilling its mission as a leader in Veteran’s health care. The VA Northern California HCS includes Sacramento VA Medical Center – an 81-bed inpatient facility with four Operating Rooms and Emergency Services; Martinez VA Outpatient Clinic which includes an Ambulatory Surgical Unit and a 120-bed community living center (CLC); and 13 Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCS) throughout the Northern California region serving over 100,000 Veterans. In addition, VANCHCS holds a strong academic relationship with University of California, Davis Medical Center and a collaborative relationship with David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base, CA.
The Chief of Pathology and Laboratory will be responsible for the overall operation and supervision of Pathology and Laboratory Services across Northern California’s large and complex VA health care system. In addition, the Chief will provide efficient management of resources and budget, facilitate a collaborative team environment, and proactively identify the needs and concerns of the Service.
Qualified candidates will be seasoned clinicians who demonstrate extensive and progressive leadership experience, both as a clinician and an administrator. Preferred candidates will have the ability to meet VA established performance measure goals and possess a thorough knowledge of the standards of the Veterans Health Administration and other accrediting bodies. The Chief of Pathology and Laboratory should possess the ability to promote innovation and lean management, be able to lead others and inspire organizational excellence.
Salary Range: $270,000-$400,000
Tour of Duty: Monday-Friday, 08:00am to 4:30pm
Telework Eligibility: Not eligible.
Travel Required: Yes, 25% of the time between VANCHCS sites of care.

The service area encompasses western Colorado and eastern Utah regions and includes the primary VAMC plus four satellite clinics.
