The Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Consortium's (IDCRC) goal is to support the planning and implementation of infectious diseases clinical research that efficiently addresses the scientific priorities of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). The Laboratory Operations Unit (LOU) leads the development, implementation and evaluation of the laboratory research essential to the successful execution of the IDCRC research agenda. The IDCRC's mission is to facilitate the process of testing candidate vaccines, diagnostics, therapeutics, and other interventions in clinical trials. The organization conducts Phase I through Phase IV vaccine and treatment trials, including clinical studies in collaboration with industry partners.

The focus of responsibilities for the LOU Research Project Manager I-II is to lead the fiscal operations of the unit and support the LOU team in coordination of IDCRC protocols (clinical trials) with other relevant internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent will work under the direction of the LOU Director. The incumbent will work closely with the other LOU team members as well as the protocol representatives, clinical trial assistants, protocol specialists, financial officers, endpoint laboratories and administrative support team. The LOU Research Project Manager I-II will support all relevant stakeholders during all phases of the protocol (concept stage, development, implementation, and closeout). They will participate in IDCRC protocol-specific calls and meetings and fulfil the duties described below.

Responsibilities

Administrative Project Support

• Generate and contribute to cross functional and LOU internal meeting agendas, prepare meeting minutes, and manage follow-ups.
• Support the LOU Director and LOU Laboratory Operations Manager in administrative activities where needed.
• Work closely with LOU Director on overall study timelines and budgets.
• Organize budget requests and timelines, inform team of upcoming timelines.
• Where possible, prepare assay and testing timelines. Monitor adherence to study timelines.
• Represent the LOU in protocol team meetings when needed.
• Assist in creating protocol specific progress reports.

Fiscal Support

• Represent the LOU for all budget-related questions.
• Review concept proposals and extract important laboratory, assay and budget information.
• Conduct in depth research on assay costs where needed.
• Serve as a LOU liaison to other protocol team members, IDCRC units, DMID, affiliated individuals or institutions, and outside organizations for assay costs.
• Work closely with endpoint laboratories on assay costs.
• Prepare and maintain laboratory study cost estimates.
• Prepare and maintain LOU fiscal database.
• Develop and manage fiscal overview document(s).
• Contribute to written study budgets and per protocol testing cost tables.
• File budget requests and final budget documents.
• Troubleshoot problems in budget estimates and final study budgets.
• As necessary, assist with protocol funding proposals and the IDCRC annual progress report.
• Assist in capturing and listing LOU metrics.
• Assist in preparing contracts and SOW.
• Monitor incoming invoices and check against budget and SOW.
• Assist in implementing fiscal and administrative processes.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Research Project Manager I:

• BA/BS in related field or equivalent experience required.
• Minimum of five years post-bachelor's related project/study management experience in a research setting.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong supervisory skills and budgeting experience.
• Grant and contract experience.

Research Project Manager II:

In addition to minimum qualifications for Research Project Manager I:

• Minimum of seven years post-bachelor's related project/study management experience in a research setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Research Project Manager I:

• MA/MS desired.
• Minimum of three years post-master's related project/study management experience in a research setting.
• Experience in fiscal oversight/budget generation for laboratory research projects and/or clinical trials
• Experience working on human clinical trials, immunology, virology and/or pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics projects.
• Solid understanding on common laboratory immunogenicity endpoint assays.
• Ability to work under minimal supervision, create and manage project schedules, including tasks, deliverables, milestones, and schedules.
• Strong background in collaborative team leadership and project completion, along with excellent written and oral communication is required.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite, especially Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.
• Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel highly preferred (ability to create and maintain pivot tables, automated calculations, other complex data analyses).
• Experience using Zoom or other teleconferencing software.
• Prior experience as a project/research manager or administrator is a plus.
• Experience in laboratory management and/or operations.
• Able to work in a cross-functional team and streamline activities between different stakeholders.
• Attention to detail and experience in quality control and quality assurance.
• Smartsheet experience.

Research Project Manager II:

In addition to preferred qualifications for Research Project Manager I:

• Minimum of five years post-master's related project/study management experience in a research setting.

Research Project Manager I: The annual base salary range for this position is from $72,946 to $109,408, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

Research Project Manager II: The annual base salary range for this position is from $80,434 to $120,619, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
