Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is an independent, nonprofit organization and the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington. Fred Hutch's Philanthropy program raises funds for cancer and related disease research, care, and education to help Fred Hutch become the world's best cancer center. Since the April 2022 merger that led to the formation of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, Fred Hutch has served as the cancer program for UW Medicine, and Philanthropy is proud to raise funds that fuel the adult oncology program on behalf of both Fred Hutch and UW Medicine.

Following board approval of an ambitious, 10-year comprehensive campaign, our team of more than 110 will grow to more than 150 over the next three years. Philanthropy staff implement high-performing, relationship-based fundraising programs that engage and inspire thousands of supporters who are passionate about preventing and eliminating cancer and infectious disease. Our FY25 goal includes increasing our annual fundraising, deepening our patient family fundraising, and advancing the first phase of our comprehensive campaign through Fred Hutch's 50th anniversary in 2025. The Program Director, Philanthropic Gifts reports to the Executive Director, Philanthropic Gifts and serves on the department's Philanthropic Gifts team. The Program Director will manage a cohort of gift officers to qualify, cultivate and solicit complex gifts that meet the donors' desired impact and meet the institution's priorities. They will maintain a select portfolio of donors and work to persuasively articulate the mission and goals of Fred Hutch and translating complex science and clinical priorities to inspire gifts and grants. The Program Director, in cooperation with the Executive Director, Philanthropic Gifts and Assistant VP of Gifts and Grants, will build trusted relationships across Philanthropy to support, develop and execute strategies for events, donor communications and stewardship.

The Program Director will take initiative, work independently, and collaborate with team members across the institution. In addition, they will maintain professionalism, show flexibility, handle multiple tasks and changing priorities, and remain composed under the pressure of deadlines. Some travel and weekend and evening work will be required.

This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely: This position is a hybrid role with a minimum 2 days per week at our South Lake Union campus.

Responsibilities

• In partnership with the Executive Director, manage the Philanthropic Gifts team to achieve strategic goals and efforts to increase philanthropic support via major gifts.
• Lead, manage, and implement change, as well as motivate and mentor staff while increasing performance toward stretch goals.
• Manage the Associate Directors team and partner with the Executive Director to support day to day activities and strategies of the Philanthropic Gifts team.
• Persuasively articulate the mission and goals of Fred Hutch and translate complex science and clinical priorities to inspire gifts and grants.
• Meet annual revenue goals and other key performance metrics including but not limited to funds raised, numbers of proposal submitted, number of gifts closed, number of substantive communications with donors, number of donors qualified or disqualified.
• Align solicitation strategies with Fred Hutch goals for operations, research, endowment, and new initiatives of the strategic plan.
• Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and prospects capable of gifts at $100,000+.
• Create and strengthen relationships with donors using data-driven identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship methodologies.
• Facilitate meaningful interactions for donors and prospects with faculty, as well as administrative and volunteer leadership, including the President and Director, Board of Directors, and Board of Advisors, as appropriate.
• Align solicitation strategies with Fred Hutch goals for operations, research, patient supportive services, education initiatives, and new initiatives of the strategic plan.
• Participate in a robust schedule of in-person and virtual events and represent Fred Hutch in the community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's Degree desired or equivalent work experience
• A minimum of seven years of professional experience in fundraising with proven success soliciting, securing, and stewarding philanthropic gifts, grants, or partnerships
• Demonstrated ability to articulate the mission and vision of the organization in a compelling manner
• Exceptional independent writing and editing expertise with the ability to tailor approaches to specific decision makers
• Proven ability to advance the interests of funders and prospective donors while honoring and protecting the best interests of the organization
• Agile and able to implement change to adapt to changing external forces and emerging priorities
• Ability to build relationships and work in a team environment
• Ability to handle and respect confidential and sensitive information
• Comfort working within a complex organization
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Track record of successful program development and team management
• Experience with a CRM, Raiser's Edge/RENXT, or related fundraising software preferred
• Experience in campaign planning and/or campaign implementation
• Experience in research or healthcare environment
• Innate sense of urgency combined with self-motivation
• Intellectual depth and curiosity, integrity, vision, creativity, and a sense of humor
• Highly developed organizational and information management skills
• Strong attention to a high level of detail and quality of work
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects and demands

The annual base salary range for this position is from $133,245 to $210,600, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
