Job Summary

The Department of Inpatient Pediatrics at Denver Health is seeking a full-time Neonatal Hospitalist to join our growing hospitalist program.  Denver Health is partnered with the University of Colorado School of Medicine and all physicians have faculty appointments commensurate with experience and qualifications.  The Neonatal Hospitalist will deliver direct patient care, supervise and teach pediatric residents, attend team meetings, and participate in quality improvement, clinical research, and/or medical education projects.        

Clinical shifts will include some combination of:

• Primary attending on NICU stepdown teaching team
• Primary attending in Well-Baby Nursery with weekday resident supervision
• In-house night coverage of NICU patients with neonatologist back-up
• Delivery room attendance
• Emergency resource for residents covering Pediatrics Ward and PICU at night

Essential Functions:

• Delivers direct clinical care to patients. Supervises and gives feedback to residents, ensures safe provision of care, conducts bedside teaching during rounds (80%)
• Teaches residents and medical students through didactics, including formal presentations and facilitating small group discussions (10%)
• Leads quality improvement and scholarly work aimed at improving safety and clinical outcomes for patients. (10%)

Education:

• Doctorate Degree Doctorate Degree Graduate of an accredited medical school Required

Licenses:

• NRP-Neonatal Resuscitation Program - AHA - American Heart Association Required and
• BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required and
• PALS-Pediatric Advanced Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association Required and
• MD- Physician - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques
• Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
• Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
• Communicates effectively orally an in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience, expresses or exchanges ideas by verbal communication
• Develops specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work
• The ability to systematically analyze problems, draw relevant conclusions, and devise appropriate courses of action
• Identifies the educational needs of learners, develops medical education curricula, and teaches and instructs learners
