Overview.The Department of Surgery at the University of Kentucky, College of Medicine, is seeking a talented individual to support and advance a culture of organizational well-being within the Department of Surgery. The Department’s Well-Being Director will report to the Chair of the Department of Surgery and the Director of Organizational Well-Being in the Office for Organizational Well-Being. This faculty appointment will focus on opportunities to support the professional development and leadership effectiveness of faculty, other providers, and staff within the department. The candidate for this position must have at least five years’ experience in coaching, organizational improvement, learning and development, or similar fields. The candidate should have an M.D., master’s degree, or PhD in a relevant field (e.g., organizational psychology, leadership development, organizational development, etc.) Completion of life coach training and credentialing as such is preferred. Prior experience in a healthcare environment, particularly experience in the surgical field is preferred. Candidate should have demonstrated and established a reputation for integrity, discretion, honesty, and good judgment; references required. Strong communication skills and collaborative spirit are essential.
Duties and Responsibilities.The successful candidate will be expected to:
Partner with the department chair and other leaders to assess the need for individual coaching engagements and initiate coaching when deemed appropriate.
Engage with surgical faculty and providers to assess strengths, areas for improvement, and personal development goals.
Provide constructive feedback, guidance, and strategies to enhance leadership effectiveness, decision-making, and communication skills.
Create and facilitate an evidenced-based action plan to address interpersonal challenges.
Design and implement team-building activities and interventions to improve overall team dynamics.
Work closely with the quality leaders and assist with change management initiatives, as applicable.
Deliver customized leadership development programs, workshops, and training sessions to address the unique needs of the department.
Develop and secure effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, and leaders within and across organizational lines to achieve desired outcomes.
Teaching activities will include working with faculty, providers, department leadership, and staff (as applicable), related to well-being.
Facilitate focus groups, group coaching, and mediation (as needed), promoting a positive and cohesive work environment.
