Overview
Responsibility for planning, directing, and controlling operational and administrative activities. Involves oversight and management of operations functions within the hospital to ensure operational efficiency, exceptional patient care, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Provides strategic planning, leadership, and collaboration with stakeholders to achieve organizational goals. Implements operational plans and strategic priorities by serving as senior project leader for initiatives and tasks advancing the clinical operations, efficiency, human capital and fiscal planning needs. Serves as a point of contact on behalf of the Medical Center operations leadership for a range of key internal stakeholders.
Responsible for directing and facilitating the identification, implementation and ongoing measurement of projects under limited guidance, which improve the effectiveness and quality of health care. Requires interpersonal skills, negotiation skills, focus on innovation and the ability to balance multiple priorities. This is a strategic and facilitative role that requires a combination of focus and flexibility as well as a willingness to play an active, behind-the-scenes role.
Key Responsibilities
- Key Responsibility 1: Develop and implement strategic initiatives to optimize hospital operations, improve patient outcomes, and enhance overall efficiency. Align strategic plans with the hospital's mission and goals.
- Key Responsibility 2: Provides budget support for operations departments, ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost-effectiveness. Provides leadership for the capital requisition process for operations departments. Supports development and presentation of business plans/proformas to support capital acquisition.
- Key Responsibility 3: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to evaluate the performance of operations departments and drive improvement initiatives. Responsible for developing and maintaining annual operations KPI (Key Performance Indicators) dashboard to ensure quality initiatives align with annual operating plan.
- Key Responsibility 4: Leads operations initiatives to compliance with regulatory standards, including OSHA, Joint Commission, Department of Health and other relevant agencies, by developing and implementing policies and procedures.
- Key Responsibility 5: Co-chairs UMMC Safety Committee to ensure that a robust committee structure is developed that will support environment of care and life safety standards.
- Key Responsibility 6: Identifies and implements innovative technologies to streamline hospital operations and enhance efficiency. Lead implementation of innovative initiatives acting as a project manager and ensuring multi-disciplinary participation in programmatic changes.
- Key Responsibility 7: Develops and maintains business continuity plans and emergency preparedness requirements for operational departments to ensure readiness for crises or disasters. Completes annual preparedness assessment to ensure regulatory requirements are being met.
- Key Responsibility 8: Establishes quality improvement initiatives and monitors to enhance patient safety, satisfaction, and outcomes throughout the hospital. Implement best practices to streamline operations and enhance productivity.
- Key Responsibility 9: Leads operational departments reward and recognition activities. Develops annual recognition calendar to support departmental events and collaborates with MTC on annual celebration. Participates on Hospital Week planning committee.
- Key Responsibility 10: Promotes and maintains good interpersonal relationships; proficiency in team building, conflict resolution, and group interaction. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to handle sensitive or difficult situations with tact and diplomacy and to interact with diverse groups of people both within and outside of the organization.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Masters degree preferred
- 5-6 Years of experience of progressively responsible experience within healthcare, is required. Five years in a supervisory or leadership position is required.
- Experience of working with budgets, financial management and provider billing preferred.
- FACHE, Lean Six Sigma, Project Management Professional, Lean Practitioner, RN preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficient organization and problem-solving skills are required to develop/implement efficient work processes, and to successfully resolve difficult, conflict-oriented situations for the common good.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, coach and motivate the performance of subordinate administrative, clinical, and professional employees.
- Highly effective written and verbal communication skills are required in order to work with medical and nursing staff to resolve service concerns and in order to supervise/manage staff.
- Proficient organization and problem-solving skills are required to develop and implement efficient work processes and successfully resolve difficult, conflict-oriented situations for the common good.
- Proficient guest relations skills are required in order to positively and effectively present a good image of the organization and the department to its customers.
- Ability to learn and use computer systems to manage patient information.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient populations(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
