JOB SUMMARY
The Occupational Therapy Helpant helps with rehabilitative activities for patients who may have developmental, physical and emotional impairments. This position performs occupational therapy treatments to help with restoring autonomous functioning and/or minimizing debilitation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Provides occupational therapy treatments, under the direction of a licensed Occupational Therapist, to assist in developing, improving and restoring autonomous functioning and\or minimizing debilitation.
Communicates with the supervising therapist regarding patient progress or needs for updating plan of care.
Establishes rapport with the patient in a professional manner.
Provides necessary equipment and\or instruction to patient and\or family members prior to patient's discharge. Performs splinting application and education in use.
Prepares comprehensive, concise and timely documentation of patient treatment and progress. Supervises ancillary staff and students, when appropriate and as assigned. Effectively communicates treatment information to ancillary staff.
Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings to maintain awareness of patient status.
Fulfills continuing education and\or certification requirements to maintain required qualifications. Takes responsibility to know and complete professional and technical requirements and give documentation on such requirements.
Presents educational programs when requested.
