The VA Northern Indiana Healthcare System is recruiting for a Physician (GYN/OB). The function in Medical Service on a Fee for Service Basis. Compensation will be based on the procedure performed. Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR[(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR(3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Basic Requirements: Preferred Experience/Qualifications: Board certified or eligible for board certification in OB/GYN Physical Requirements: Position is in a hospital/clinic setting. Normal physical requirements are applicable, i.e. walking, standing, bending, sitting in the performance of duties. The Physical Requirements of this position are concerned with the mental and physical ability of the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the proposed assignment and may include requisite laboratory and other screening as required by Federal regulatory agencies. In addition, duties require clinical skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; as well as a good working knowledge of the VA. Works as team with both surgical services, Women's Veteran's Program Manager, VA medical center leadership, and primary care leadership to ensure the highest quality of care is offered to women Veteran patients. Responsibilities include assisting in surgical operations as well as liaison for Women's Health Clinics. Developing clinical education programs for women's health providers and trainees Improve or simplify the Women's Health/ GYN operations or reduce costs or improve clinic efficiency whenever possible. Provides guidance and assistance to Women's Health physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants Working with quality management team to monitor and review all clinical performance measures by gender. Establishing priorities and direction for implementing quality improvement on clinical quality measures that apply to women's health. Maintains awareness of and adopts a positive stance towards performance improvement programs. The gynecologist's scope of practice will include, work-up, diagnosis, and provision of nonsurgical treatment of patients to include pap smears, breast examinations, care of uncomplicated gynecological patients (non-operative), cervical disorders, common Sexually Transmitted Diseases / infections, family planning, gynecological cancer screening, history and physical examinations, menstruation disorders management, incontinence, patient counseling and education, perform pelvic examination with associated laboratory evaluation , pelvic floor dysfunction management, peri-menopause/post-menopause management, pessary fitting and preventive health care Procedural task will include cryotherapy, I&D of bartholin abscess or hematoma, skin biopsy or excision, IUD insertion and removal, endometrial biopsy, pelvic ultrasound, contraceptive implant, colposcopy, hysteroscopy, simple laparoscopic procedures, biopsy and loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP).
