Baylor Scott & White McLane Children's flagship NICU, located in Temple, is the only Level IV NICU located between Dallas and Austin. This 51-bed unit treats approximately 800 newborns each year.
Expert neonatology care close to home
The Baylor Scott & White McLane Children's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) cares for the most fragile and premature newborns as well as full-term newborns diagnosed with serious or life-threatening conditions.
The NICU, including our Level IV NICU in Temple, is staffed by experienced pediatric specialists called neonatologists. They oversee each childs care and collaborate with other pediatric specialists, such asneurologists,cardiologistsandpulmonologists. Specialists monitor these tiny patients around the clock. The most advanced technology is used to support the fragile infants breathing and many other life-sustaining measures.
The average length of stay for extremely premature infants is about three months, or generally around the time of their original due date.
Patients we serve:
Extremely low birth weight babies (22 weeks) to full term infants who need specialized care after birth. Patients needing phototherapy, hypoglycemia treatment, sepsis, surgical intervention, whole body cooling to ECMO. Wide range of acuity and treatments in our Level 4 NICU. We are located at the Memorial Campus with our L&D and Couplet Care partners. We attend all high risk deliveries.
We are a Magnet Hospital and are a nationally benchmarked level 4 NICU with outstanding outcomes. We have several growth opportunities and advancement within the department. We care for the sickest patients in CTX. We have patients transferred to us for higher level of care from 22,000 square miles around the state.
We pride ourselves on teamwork and having lots of support to get through your shifts. We have lots of multidisciplinary opportunities and have strong relationships with our OB colleagues, providers, surgeons, RT's and ECMO coordinator.

Job Summary
As a Registered Nurse, will oversee patient care provided by the healthcare team using a professional practice model. Your responsibilities include patient assessment, recognizing health issues, creating care plans, and assessing patient responses.
What You'll Do
- You, as an RN, will conduct detailed clinical assessments, prioritize patient and family needs, create, implement, and evaluate care plans. Adjust plans to reach desired outcomes.
- Building relationships, managing discomfort, staying professional are vital in therapeutic connections with patients and families.
- Creating care plans reflecting values aids in resolving issues.
- You will help educate patients, families, nurses, and community members to empower them with knowledge for better healthcare choices. Assess and document learning needs regularly.
- Work with colleagues and community to create a care plan. Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly.
- You'll use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff. Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery.

What Will Make You Successful In The Role
- A deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures.
- Know nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area. Understand hospital procedures and rules.

Qualifications
- Grad of an Accredited Program
- Specialized field of study should be nursing.
- A current and valid nursing license.
- Must have BLS certification or get it within 30 days of starting in this role.
