The role you’ll contribute:

2/28/22 Prepares and organizes pharmacy medications by name and dosage, as listed on patient orders. To provide safe and accurate medication services and to support all those involved in direct patient care.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pharmacy Operations

Actively performs all pharmacy technician functions and maintains active proficiency in:

·    Standard work parameters

·    Operational programs

·    Delivery and compounding systems

·    Hospital computer systems

·    Medication ordering systems

Maintains operational expertise in and actively provides coverage of the technician services provided by

·    Central Pharmacy

·    IV Room

·    Delivery

·    Controlled Substances

Oversees appropriate utilization of medication automation, technology, and computer systems

·    Accurately interprets electronic records

·    Maintains expertise in Cerner processes

Accurately oversees the management of medication inventories and the preparation and delivery of patientspecific medication doses

·    Manages medication delivery activities

·    Prepares accurate medication products for delivery

·    Prevents improper drug, dose, dosage form selection, expiration dating, and barcode scanning issues when checking products

·    Performs oral and injectable product compounding

 

Pharmacy Practice

Facilitates medication safety practices

·    Identifies, mitigates, and reports potential medication errors such as lookalike sound-alike medications

Maintains continuous learning and pharmacy practice development

·    Maintains personal continuing education plan including documentation of an annual selfevaluation and plan for self-development

·    Completes CE modules as part of Pharmacy Technician licensure renewal

Provides patientcentered care services

·    Provides accurate, safe and timely medication therapy

Clinical Pharmacy Services

Supports practice in decentralized areas

·    Collaborates with other pharmacy staff

·    Collaborates with care providers and Pharmacists to optimize care and improve services

Teamwork and Inter-Professional Collaboration

Presents to assigned areas on time, ready to work and does not exhibit unscheduled absenteeism

·    Adheres to lunch and break schedule

Assures continuity of care between shifts, among pharmacy staff assignments, and across pharmacy practice areas

·    Assures appropriate handoff between shifts and participates in Energizers/Meetings

·    Accepts any necessary work from preceding and does not leave excessive work for following shift

Works effectively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure the best outcome for the patient

·    Demonstrates sensitivity to the perspective of the patient, caregiver, or health care colleague in all communications

Teaching, Training, Precepting, and Mentorship

Mentors new-staff and assists with training

Supports experiential training of pharmacy trainees in areas of expertise

Participates in departmental meetings (75% attendance as scheduled)

Participates in departmental educational activities (100% completion)

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

·         Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, problemsolving, and customer service skills

·    Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changes as necessary

·    Ability to interact constructively with supervisors, peers, and external customers

·    Ability to follow direction from formal management personnel and informal supervisors (pharmacists) and at times, to work well without direct supervision

·    Ability to identify, follow up, and resolve discrepancies

·    Ability to identify, resolve, and mitigate pharmacy operational or program issues

·    Ability to keep accurate and complete records

·    Knowledge of medical terminology

·    Ability to teach pharmacy technician students

·    Proficiency in hospital computer system technology and automation

·    Knowledge and competence in aseptic techniques

·    Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English

·    Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

·         High school degree

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

·         Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in a physical science, business or healthcare

·       One year of Contemporary hospital pharmacy experience

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

·         Registered Pharmacy Technician in their respective state or within 90 days based on state requirement

·         If applicable to facility Sterile Compounding Certification

 

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:

·         Current certification from Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or from the Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT)
