Job Summary:
UNC Health Communications and Marketing department is looking for a Communications Specialist I to join our team focused on cancer care and research at UNC Health and UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Reporting to the director of cancer center marketing and communications, this person will support the cancer team and is responsible for assisting with content on websites, assisting with social media content and email communications, and creating content for other projects on an as-needed basis. This person will help execute digital content and marketing strategies to support external and internal communications and marketing goals.
The Communications Specialist I partners with internal staff and faculty to ensure that digital content can reach the intended audience, provide a consistent user experience, and convey information in a clear and accessible manner.
Description of Job Responsibilities:
Supports the creation, maintenance and review of digital content on websites and other digital properties, including but not limited to social media and email communications.
Ensures that content is compelling, accurate, and consistent with brand guidelines.
Builds and maintains positive and collaborative relationships with faculty and staff within UNC Cancer Care (UNC Health) and UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Familiar with best practices concerning digital communication strategies and tools, and ability to implement confidently.
Support other marketing and communications activities as needed, including content generation for internal and external strategic needs.
Supports internal communications to faculty and staff through newsletters, websites, meetings, etc.
Supports media relations by helping with the creation of news releases and other support as needed.
Desired Skills/Capabilities:
One or more years of related digital content experience
Demonstrated digital content experience; hands-on experience with content management systems, social media and email newsletter platforms
Effective and clear communicator
Detail-oriented and quality-driven
Ability to manage multiple projects and requests with competing deadlines
Knowledge and application of digital accessibility best practices
Strong writing and editing skills, and keen attention for adhering to style guidelines
Experience working with large, complex organizations with stakeholders across multiple units and/or healthcare communications and/or higher education communications
Ability to professionally and respectfully collaborate in a diverse organization
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Public Relations, Marketing or related field.
Professional Experience Requirements:
One (1) year of experience in communications, public relations, marketing or related field.
