Overview
The responsibility of the Public Safety Officer is to provide a safe and secure environment, which is conducive to good health care. Provides a high visibility presence and proactively patrols campus facilities and property in preventing security related incidents and unsafe conditions. Responds to emergencies and security related events and initiates the appropriate action.
Responsibilities
Maintains a high visibility presence and proactively patrols campus facilities and property in preventing security related incidents and unsafe conditions. Responds to emergencies and public safety incidents and initiates the appropriate actions per organization and department policies and guidelines. Conducts investigations of accidents and security related incidents and initiates appropriate follow-up per organization and department polices and guidelines. Prepares incident reports and other documentation in a clear, concise, and accurate manner. Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and methods and the ability to verbally de-escalate hostile or combative situations. Knowledge of appropriate Use of Force techniques and methods, and federal, state and local statues/ regulations, which governs Use of Force. Ability to demonstrate knowledge verbally and practicality. Responds to behavioral health events (Behavioral-Health Emergency Response Team -BERT), collaborates with clinical and medical staff, and takes appropriate action to keep patient and staff safe. Knowledge of behavioral health policies and protocols, including the appropriate use of restraints. Responsible for the safety and security of the helipad and helicopter operations. Assists patients, visitors and staff by providing information, safety escorts, along with other public safety related assistance. Monitors and assist with traffic control, parking enforcement and crowd control duties as assigned. Participates in training and certification sessions; maintains all necessary certifications. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Prior law enforcement or campus/healthcare public safety experience preferred.
Valid Delaware Driver's License required with no more than 3 moving violations on current driving record.
CPR/AED Certification.
Completion of the International Association Healthcare Security & Safety Basic Course and Examination is preferred within 1 year of employment.
