Description
Nicklaus Children's Health System (Nicklaus Children’s) is seeking a distinguished and collaborative cardiac
surgeon with experience as an outstanding leader and a clinical record of excellence to serve as the next Chief of
the Division of Cardiac Surgery and Heart Institute Co-Director (Chief). This is an excellent leadership position to
serve at one of the nation's leading cardiac surgery programs and children's health systems to expand service to
a broader population with an emphasis of fostering excellence in clinical care and innovation.
Located in Miami, Florida, Nicklaus Children’s is a system comprised of a Level-I Pediatric Trauma Center and a
307-bed flagship institution, Nicklaus Children's Hospital, as well as a network of outpatient and urgent care
centers, and the Nicklaus Children's Hospital Foundation, Nicklaus Children's Pediatric Specialists – a multispecialty
physician group, an ambulatory surgery center, and Children’s Health Ventures, a for-profit arm. With
net patient revenue approaching $1 billion, the System includes approximately 850 attending physicians and more
than 390 pediatric subspecialists. Nicklaus Children's has received many accolades over the years, including
recurring designation as a Magnet® facility for nursing excellence and most recently ranked in five pediatric
subspecialty programs by U.S. News & World Report. Supported by a $25 million gift, Nicklaus Children’s is set to
open a new five-story, 131,000-square-foot surgical tower in 2024.
The next Chief will be responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of patient care, and educational and
research activities of the program. The Chief will oversee and lead the clinical activities of the Division, providing
strategic guidance and decision making on patient care, quality, peri-operative matters, and recruitment. In
addition, the Chief will supervise the clinical activities of the faculty within the Division.
This position requires a thorough understanding of the healthcare environment, both regionally and nationally, a
vision for the growth of clinical capabilities and regional growth, as well as an ability to collaborate with other
leaders across Nicklaus Children’s. The Chief will lead and formulate multidisciplinary program development,
expand the clinical footprint, and allocate resources effectively. This leader will be an individual who has a passion
for providing outstanding care, a desire to improve systems and processes to maximize efficiency, and the
leadership to engage and develop faculty. They will be a leader that demonstrates the collaborative ability to work
well with multiple partners and stakeholders.
The successful candidate will be an accomplished, nationally recognized surgeon and outstanding leader with
demonstrated ability to set a vision, effectively inspire, manage, and mentor. This leader will exemplify a
collaborative ability to work well with other leaders across Nicklaus Children’s. The Chief will have a thorough
understanding and ability to work within a complex children's health system and possess excellent interpersonal
and communication skills to serve the region. The candidate must meet the requirements to practice clinically
within the state of Florida and board certification in congenital cardiac surgery is preferred.

# An MD, MD/PhD or DO from an accredited institution with board certification in congenital cardiac surgery is
preferred.
# Eligible for licensure in Florida.

Surgery.

producing the highest quality surgical results.

to build consensus around attainment of this goal among constituents.

# An expertise in developing sustained clinical excellence through advancing patient outcomes, processes and

and community providers to promote cardiac surgical care across the region.

staff.
