The role you’ll contribute:
The primary responsibility of the Certified Occupational Therapist is to integrate the elements of patient management in a manner designed to maximize outcomes of the treatment plan established by the Occupational Therapist. The Occupational Therapy Assistant’s scope of work includes the prevention, remediation, and rehabilitation of patients who have impairments, functional limitations, disabilities or changes in physical function, psychosocial abilities, activities of daily living and health status resulting from injury, diseases or other causes. Occupational therapy intervention is the purposeful and skilled interaction of the Occupational Therapy Assistant with the patient and, when appropriate, with other individuals involved in patient care, utilizing therapeutic exercise, psychosocial, sensorimotor and perceptual motor skills and other procedures to produce changes in the condition consistent with the diagnosis and prognosis. They interact and practice in collaboration with a variety of both healthcare and non-healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, family members, government agencies and third-party payers.
The Occupational Therapy Assistant participates in carrying out the objectives of this service by performing duties which are commensurate with his / her education. Duties are carried out within the framework established by the Department of Professional Regulations as promulgated within Standards of Practice and in full compliance with standards as set forth by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO), Commission Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) at Peninsula Rehabilitation Center (PRC), the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board (AOTCB).
The value you’ll bring to the team:
Provides skilled therapy intervention based on the occupational therapist’s plan of care in accordance with state practice act, insurance guidelines/requirements, and accreditation agency requirements.
Modalities including fluid therapy and hot/cold packs, ultrasound and electrical stimulation if certified.
Demonstrates competency in all procedures within scope of practice, as appropriate to the age of the patient served, and maintains a knowledge of growth and development with an understanding of the range of treatment by diagnosis needed by patients
Documents in accordance with insurance guidelines/requirements and acceptable practice act standards and posts charges accordingly.
Documents in medical record, accurately reflecting treatment provided, and utilizing approved format/abbreviations to allow for continuity of care.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
Associate’s degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant
Current Florida COTA license required
Must retain a valid driver's license and current automobile insurance, as driving between facilities is a requirement of this position.
One year of clinical experience preferred.
