Job Summary
Primary responsibility in association with the Cardiologist(s)/Intensivist(s), for the inpatient management of critically ill patients with primary cardiac conditions in the inpatient cardiac care center/cardiac intensive care unit. Participates, facilitates, and provides comprehensive clinical care to complex critically ill pediatric patients. Demonstrates advanced knowledge, critical thinking skills, hands on clinical skills to provide quality level care. Serves as key resource for communication across a multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include performing history and physical examinations, ordering and interpreting studies (radiological, laboratory, echocardiograms), prescribing medications and documentation of care services within the EMR. Facilitates and provides education for transition and discharge needs to patients, families, and caregivers. Performs procedures within the APRN education, certification and scope of practice demonstrated via approved competencies.

Job Specific Duties
- Conducts medical rounds (history, verification of medication, etc.), oversees and documents the plan of care, and ensures best practice are in place. Performs focused cardiac or comprehensive assessments and provide accurate documentation. Ensures plan of care for the cardiac patient is of sufficient breadth and depth to guide the interdisciplinary team in achieving the desired health outcome.
- Functions as clinical expert/role model, identifying clinical issues. Leads in the coordination of complex care across a continuum of care from admission, transfer to discharge.
- Reviews all patient records prior to admission (labs, consent, advanced directives, custody documentation, etc.) in a timely manner.
- Provides and ensures education to parents, diagnosis-related discharge planning, and wellness training (parenting skills).
- Writes orders, monitors and alters drug therapies, orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests with education and experience within the established protocol in collaborative relationship with the supervising physicians(s).
- Prescribes, monitors, and evaluates medications and therapies as per protocol.
- Maintains a high level of critical thinking and time management skills.
- Completes clinical documentation accurately and in a timely manner of 24 hours. Documents patient follow up per guidelines. Generates, collects, and integrates data from a wide variety of sources in order to make clinical judgements and critical decisions about the initiation of orders, procedures, referrals, and treatment.
- Provides patient information and effectively completes the hand off process to physicians/advanced practice providers at shift time and patient reassignments 100% of the time. Models professional verbal and written communication with the interdisciplinary team members involved in the ongoing management of patients to maintain continuity and optimize patient outcomes.
- Ensures zero-based medication errors by efficiently and accurately ordering medication following the "Five Rights of Medication Administration" and medication administrative policies.
- Accountable to follow all Infection Control standards and ensures proper use of Personal Protective equipment per policy and procedures to ensure safe patient care.

Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements
- Master's Degree of Nursing or DNP from an accredited school of nursing
- Valid State of Florida APRN license - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB)- maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- American Heart Association PALS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- American Heart Association ACLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- Level II Background Check
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Prior Advanced Practice Registered Nurse experience preferred.
- Available to work weekends, nights, holidays with varying schedules.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to perform expert specialized skills that are required for specific specialty area.
- Able to recognize subtle changes in the patient's condition and to adapt care based on those changes.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively with other disciplines using discretion and independent judgement.
