The Research Investigator 3 independently leads and manages a diverse portfolio of research efforts at Baylor Scott and White Research Institute (BSWRI). This position involves collaboration with other research investigators, research scientists, and clinicians to secure external funding, execute study deliverables as a principal investigator (PI), disseminate study results in high impact journals and present at local, national, and international conferences. This position provides leadership, direction, and continuity to determine the research direction of the Institute.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Secures and maintains external funding (e.g., individual, programmatic, or center-based grants and system-level collaboratives) at the federal, professional society, non-profit foundation (excluding BSWH related foundation).
Serves as principal investigator, site-PI, or co-investigator on large multisite and collaborative investigator-initiated or industry-sponsored research studies and successfully executes all study deliverables.
Publishes research in high impact, peer-reviewed journals and presents at local, national, or international conferences. This includes collaborative work both internal and external to the Institute.
Serves as a leader and liaison between the Institute, clinical service lines, and greater community. This includes attending or presenting at seminars, journal clubs, thesis defenses, etc.
Participates in teaching and mentoring activities of students, residents, and/or postdoctoral research fellows. This may include work both internal and external to the Institute.
Assures the scientific integrity of the research and protection/sharing of data.
Participates as a leader in internal committees, administration, goal setting, strategic planning, and budgeting for the Institute.
Maintains membership on editorial boards or peer review committees.
Represents the Institute to internal and external scientific and medical communities, businesses and industries, philanthropic organizations and universities.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Seven years of relevant experience after Post Doctoral Fellowship, or eight years of experience in a research lab, clinical lab, or animal care facility.
History of consistently securing grants at the federal, foundation, or other level to externally fund a program. These grants include programmatic, center-based grants and system-level collaboratives.
Strong publication record in high-impact and peer-reviewed journals. This includes a history of first-author submissions.
Demonstrated history of presenting research study findings at local, national, and international conferences.
Knowledge of research methodology and study execution.
Knowledge of key safety, regulatory, and compliance requirements for work performed.
Extensive history of mentoring students, postdoctoral research fellows, junior or associate research investigators, or key study personnel.
Demonstrated high communication, writing, and collaboration skills.
Demonstrated history of successfully leading multiple multi-disciplinary research teams.
