Research Faculty Member
Clinical Research Laboratories
The Clinical Research Laboratories (CRL) within the Division of Developmental Medicine (DDM) at Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) are recruiting a research faculty member to lead innovative intervention research in child and adolescent development. The CRL’s mission is to integrate sophisticated research methods and high-quality clinical care to improve the lives of children with neurodevelopmental and behavioral conditions. The Research Faculty member is expected to contribute to this mission through extramurally funded research, as well as via collaboration with and mentorship of DDM clinician-scientists and trainees. Academic appointment at Harvard Medical School will be commensurate with clinical and research experience, training, and achievements at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level.
About the Candidate:
The candidate must be a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD, with expertise conducting translational intervention and treatment research for children with developmental-behavioral conditions. Candidates should have a track record of extramural funding, preferably from NIH, as well as a record of collaboration with other investigators and successful mentorship of trainees and early career investigators. Potential areas of expertise may include medication or device trials, intervention trials, data science, artificial intelligence, measurement expertise, behaviorally-based interventions and health services.
The ideal candidate will have expertise that complements existing research programs, which include:
Neurodevelopment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
ADHD and ASD diagnostic and treatment approaches and outcomes
Biomarkers of ADHD and ASD diagnosis and treatment response
Neuro-genetic etiology of ASD, ADHD, and genetic conditions including Down syndrome and Fragile X Syndrome
About the Division of Developmental Medicine:
Boston Children’s is a teaching hospital within Harvard Medical School, and the DDM is home to 32 clinicians and research faculty, constituting one of the largest developmental medicine centers in the United States. The interdisciplinary staff in the DDM include developmental-behavioral pediatricians, child psychologists, child psychiatrists, neurologists, nurse practitioners, and educational specialists. Our clinical and research patients include children with developmental, psychiatric, and behavioral challenges.
About the Clinical Research Laboratories:
Current CRL projects include refining understanding of neurodevelopmental phenotypes and developmental trajectories; developing and evaluating novel intervention approaches for children with neurodevelopmental conditions/diagnoses; and leveraging our vast clinical data to improve developmental outcomes. A current cornerstone of the CRL is Project STANDARD (Structured Approach to Neurodevelopmental Clinical and Research Data), which is a multi-site effort aimed at improving the efficiency of clinical care and research through standardization of clinical documentation.
CRL researchers collaborate with investigators and trainees in the Laboratories of Cognitive Neuroscience within the DDM, child neurology, genetics/genomics and child psychiatry at BCH. CRL researchers benefit from division-funded infrastructure to support recruitment and enrollment, study execution, clinical trials operations, and biostatistics. Additional shared resources include behavioral testing rooms, technical support, neuroimaging, neurophysiology, and cognitive-behavioral evaluators.
The CRL is located at Two Brookline Place. This state-of-the-art building constructed in 2020 includes integrated outpatient clinical and research space and is the home of the BCH Brain, Mind, & Behavior Center. The center integrates the Laboratories of Cognitive Neuroscience, the Division of Developmental Medicine, Behavioral
Neurology, the Autism Spectrum Center, the Division of Genetics and Genomics and the Rosamund Stone Zander Translational Neuroscience Center. There is an on-site dedicated research MRI, phlebotomy, radiology, research pharmacy, and child life specialists who can provide behavioral support to children.
