SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide students enrolled in an accredited Respiratory therapy program an opportunity to continue to develop their patient assessment, management, and critical thinking skills while completing their education. It will also prepare the student for a smooth transition from the student role to the staff therapist role by providing opportunities to enhance their patient care, and communication skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Current BLS Student must be enrolled in an CoARC accredited Respiratory Therapy Program at Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC). The Respiratory Therapy Program has listed in its curriculum a college approved course for Respiratory Therapy Preceptor (Intern). This course is listed in its college catalog along with other respiratory courses and as such would have objectives and outcomes, it may be listed as an elective course. The student would receive a grade for this course, it may be pass/ fail. The student must have completed one year (or equivalent) of the program.
The student must be certified in CPR (Basic Life Support).
The student would obtain a 74% or better on a Preceptor Entrance Exam administered by the CoARC accredited Respiratory Therapy program that the student is currently enrolled. Test questions gathered from NBRC Entry Level Exams.
The student would be available between 8-24 hours per week for the duration of the Preceptor Program. Students can exceed 24 hours per week with Respiratory Care Department and school approval.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
Customer Service experience is preferred.
