Preferred Qualifications
Role Purpose
The Outpatient Coder III works independently to assign diagnosis, procedure codes and modifiers for Ambulatory Surgery encounters while adhering to all regulatory guidelines. At least one of the following certifications is required for this position: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, CPC-A, CCA, or COC.
Responsibilities
Thoroughly reviews and analyzes patient encounters for compliant coding.
Accurately assigns codes in a timely manner.
Accurately abstracts data elements as required.
Effectively collaborates with leadership and customers (HIM Operations, Patient Access and other departments) as appropriate to ensure the integrity of the medical record and coding compliance.
Stays current of all changes in coding conventions, regulatory guidelines, code updates and BJC coding guidance.
