JOB SUMMARY Under the direction of the Clinical Engineering Manager, the Instrument Sharpening Technician II is accountable for installations, repairs, regular maintenance and calibration of most classes of surgical instruments at the component level. May offer guidance to Instrument Sharpening Tech I staff. May offer in-service and personal training for equipment users on subjects such as electrical safety, proper operation and care of the surgical instruments. Will monitor the work of outside instrument sharpening vendors to ensure quality standards are met.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Performs installations, regular maintenance, repairs, and calibrations on assigned surgical instruments to ensure proper operation and function.
Performs all assignments in a competent and timely way according to current policies and procedures.
Monitors service provided by outside instrument sharpening vendors, and accountable for quality control of service provided.
Establishes equipment baselines, performs inspections and evaluations, interprets test results and makes recommendations to solve performance deficiencies.
Installs, repairs and calibrates most classes of surgical instruments at a component level.
Performs planned maintenance and electrical safety inspections as assigned.
Uses diagnostic service software appropriate to the equipment being serviced.
Helps in the evaluation of new equipment, accessories and supplies.
Inspects incoming equipment for compliance with codes, standards, and manufacturer?s instructions.
Establishes and maintains files of literature for each piece of surgical instrumentation, such as the manufacturers? technical literature, reference standards, specifications and other documents necessary to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory agencies including TJC.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Associates Degree in biomedical equipment technology or electronics or equivalent experience required.
4+ years? experience in Instrument Sharpening industry.
Has and maintains a safe driving record.
Solid knowledge of computerized systems: recordkeeping, PM, work order systems, timekeeping, etc.
Have exceptional technical, mechanical, data-based and problem-solving skills.
Physically able to reach, raise, work atop, move along the ground or see and work in tight and/or dim places.
Able to interact and communicate with all staff and management in a positive and professional way.
Able to read and follow instructions.
Able to deal with difficult situations, resolve issues and concerns in a professional way.
Able to work and accomplish tasks in a stressful, fast-paced environment.

EDUCATION - Associate's Degree or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification
