VA Northern California Health Care System is seeking a Section Chief of Eye Care Services, for the VA Northern California Healthcare System (VA NCHCS), following the retirement of the current Section Chief.
We have state of the art operating rooms and have a modern full-service hospital in Sacramento and an ambulatory surgery center at the Martinez VA. Other well equipped existing outpatient Eye Clinics exist at Chico, Redding, Stockton, Martinez, and McClellan VA sites. Specialists within Eye Care Services include cornea, glaucoma and retina/vitreous and uveitis. It is a friendly, rewarding environment, with appreciative patients and excellent staff. We are affiliated with the UC Davis Hospital System therefore academic appointments with UC Davis School of Medicine may be available and opportunities for teaching and research abound.
This is a supervisory position with a wonderful opportunity to create a vision of growth and leadership. You will have overall responsibility for multiple existing Eye Clinic sites across Northern California. There are two Site Chiefs, one in Martinez and one in Sacramento, that this physician will supervise and who will support the department vision. The NCHCS Eye Section is a fully integrated service with ophthalmologists, optometrists, low vision staff, nurse case managers, nursing staff, and an administrative support assistant. Throughout NCHCS, there are dedicated technician support, on-site lasers, and on-site optical shops. You will have the opportunity for program development and hiring of staff for the newly built Stockton VA Eye Clinic and participate in the design and creation of a new freestanding two story Eye Clinic in Sacramento. Administrative duties include overall clinic management and policy development, long term planning for Eye Care delivery, and collaboration with other divisions across our Medical System. You will care for veterans in the outpatient clinic, operating room and could supervise UC Davis ophthalmology residents.
Salary $325,000-$375,000 Per Year
Qualifications:Candidate must be: 1) US Citizen or PRA, 2) Board Eligible/Certified in Ophthalmology 3) Have a full, unrestricted medical license in any State, and 4) confirm vaccination for seasonal influenza which are requirements for all Health Care Personnel (HCP) employed by Department of Veterans Affairs. Preferred skills: Strong anterior segment surgical skills.
