The Biobank & Molecular Analysis Program (BMAP) Lab Manager is responsible to work with minimal supervision and performs assignments independently as discussed and approved by Principal Investigator/Laboratory Director, Research Scientist and or Program Manager. Independently oversees and performs laboratory experiments and procedures in support of BMAP lab goals (e.g., biorepository, cell/tissue culture, molecular biology technologies genomic technologies, etc.).
The Lab Manager will Implement, establish and maintain robust quality control, laboratory policies and SOP's including those pertaining to regulatory agencies such as CAP. Manages the training of temporary and permanent lab personnel in lab techniques. Ensures safety requirements are met and serves as the emergency contact for the laboratory. Ensures viability of materials, reagents, and specimens. Monitors results, reports unusual outcomes/errors, and suggests modifications. Collects, enters, summarizes, and analyzes data as needed. BMAP Lab Manager contributes to the planning, design and modification of studies and experiments in the research lab setting. Participates and presents at research laboratory meetings and contributes to writing of manuscripts and/or grant proposals with BMAP leadership as required. Builds and fosters professional relationships including other departments enterprise wide.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree required; Master's degree preferred
- Minimum 5 years significant laboratory experience required; Master of Science Degree can substitute/count for 2 years experience (i.e. 3 years of significant laboratory experience required if hold a Master of Science Degree)
- Must have understanding and proficiency with molecular biology and genomics-based applications including, general molecular biology techniques such as RT-qPCR, PCR, nucleic acid extraction, QC and quantitation of nucleic acids (Nanodrop, Qubit, Tapestation), and NGS library preparation methods (RNASeq, 16S, WES).
Responsibilities include:
- Supervise staff and daily operations of the BMAP research laboratory, including prioritizing experiments, operation of all instrumentation, financial management, and supply inventory.
- Coordinate experiments and assigns work, as appropriate, with laboratories/cores both enterprise wide and external to Nemours.
- Establish and update policies and lab SOPs.
- Prepare documents for obtaining / renewing regulatory committee approvals including IBC, IRB, IACUC, RRAC, HSRSS, CLIA, and CAP as appropriate
- Understand and demonstrates safe use and operation of lab equipment.
- Understand and is knowledgeable of Nemours safety policies, procedures and ensures all lab safety requirements are met.
