This individual will serve as the Director of Cardiothoracic Critical Care Services and play a key leadership role in the expansion of clinical programs and research within the Northwestern Medicine (NM) health system. The successful candidate may also be considered for the position of Vice Chair for Critical Care in the appropriate department. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a thriving team of clinicians, educators, and researchers and to contribute to the future vision for critical care services at Northwestern Medicine, one of the premier academic medical systems in the nation. Furthermore, the Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery teams are highly ranked nationally and are undergoing rapid expansion. The new leader will be expected to spearhead the expansion of the critical care services to accommodate this clinical growth, and to position the NM system for ongoing success in the future.
The ideal candidate will have established clinical expertise in delivery of care to cardiac and thoracic surgery patients, and a national reputation as a leader in the field. In addition, academic interests and a proven track record in securing extramural funding to support academic endeavors, which may be in the basic, translational, clinical trial, or health services outcomes research, would be highly desirable. We will entertain applications from suitable candidates from different clinical backgrounds such as surgery, anesthesiology, pulmonary, cardiology, or emergency medicine. Depending upon the qualifications, the academic mission of the successful candidate will be supported by a generous recruitment package as well as consideration for an Endowed Professorship.
Clinical practice of the candidate should be focused on delivery of critical care in the multiple cardiothoracic intensive care units at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. They will be expected to develop, train and lead high performing clinical teams, and also to contribute to the education of Medical Students and residents. In addition, they would develop an integrated system to coordinate the delivery of critical care delivery across multiple NM hospitals.
Qualified candidates must (1) be board certified by their primary specialty, and in critical care and (2) be able to obtain permanent Illinois licensure.
