Responsibilities :
Documents work and maintains study documentation and laboratory records.
Independently sets up, maintains, operates and performs routine and non-routine maintenance on general equipment, including problem identification and resolution.
Informs project management and/or line management of any problems and/or deviations that may affect the integrity of the data and recommends corrective action.
Promotes a cohesive team environment.
Suggests and performs modifications to test methods or procedures where precedence exists.
Provides input and participates in project meetings, plans, monitors and guides project work.
Serves as lead chemist on projects, overseeing a small group of technical staff, with minimal supervision.
May interact in external client communications.
Sets up and performs method development and validation of various analytes in a variety of matrices with limited supervision.
Organizes, conducts and evaluates analytical results and testing.
Performs QC review of data.
Maintains a clean and safe laboratory work environment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Trains and assists less experienced staff.
Participates in process improvement initiatives.
Writes, revises and reviews methods, SOPs and portions of reports and protocols.
Participates in client visits as needed, assists in communicating technical information.
Effectively plans and utilizes personnel and resources for timely completion of assigned projects.
Assists in evaluation of data for incorporation into written reports.
Team Leadership and Management
Direct and supervise the activities of team members to ensure that work is completed efficiently and in alignment with Labcorp policies.
Identify skill gaps and coordinate targeted training programs to foster professional growth and optimize team performance.
Proactively address and resolve complex operational issues, conflicts, and challenges by applying problem-solving skills.
Ensure team members compliance to Labcorp SOPs and other regulatory agency guidelines.
Provide mentorship, and performance feedback to team members, fostering a positive work environment and enhancing team productivity.
Conduct regular and comprehensive performance evaluations, set individual and team objectives, provide constructive feedback, and implement improvement plans as necessary.
Prepare and present reports on team performance, operational metrics, and other relevant data to management team.
Client Service
Ensure team members with the sense of high-quality performance, lead the team to address client inquiries, and resolve issues.
Gather and analyze client feedback from audits to consider any opportunity to enhancements and improve overall customer satisfaction.
Resource Management
Schedule team members and assign resources.
Strategically allocate and oversee the utilization of resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to maximize operational efficiency.
Communication and Coordination
Facilitate effective communication within the team and across functional groups to support smooth operations.
Act as a liaison between management and team members, addressing concerns and conveying management directives.
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in chemistry or related scientific field with min. 4 years related or relevant laboratory experience required
Familiar with the use of standard laboratory equipment (e.g., balances, pipettes, centrifuges).
Experience with analytical instrumentation is desired.
Independently conduct tests for chemistry projects and provide initial analysis of results, asking questions as needed.
Acts as a technical resource for the department (trouble shooting, method development, qualification, maintenance and training) with guidance as needed.
Maintains and operates laboratory equipment, including independent problem identification and resolution.
Evaluates data for incorporation into written reports.
Completes project assignments on time with supervision.
Knowledgeable on a variety of study types, analysis procedures and methodology.
Able to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to assist in the preparation of relevant sections of final reports.
Ability to perform basic computer skills (e.g., Word, Excel).
