Overview
Receives samples for testing and performs initial data entry, recognizes and prioritizes STAT specimens. Provides information regarding specimen results, status and collection requirements. Prepares reference lab specimens for shipment. Maintains equipment and troubleshoots problems. Assists in evaluating new procedures. Serves as a resource and teaches new CLA-I employees and students. Requires excellent telephone skills and a thorough knowledge of laboratory test terminology.
Responsibilities
Answers the telephone, provides general laboratory information and directs calls to appropriate area and/or person. Provides support to leadership with special projects and assignments as needed with Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance; delegates appropriate tasks to support task in absence of direct leadership and works with all lab sections to develop effective and cooperative means to ensure all needs are met. Receives samples for Routine, STAT and timed tests and performs data entry of test information. Uses equipment, i.e., centrifuges, carefully and assists in the maintenance and cleanliness of equipment used and work area. Performs and evaluates maintenance systems. Implements corrective action as appropriate. Prepares specimens for testing or shipment by centrifugation and refrigeration. Delivers, stores, packs and arranges for transportation of specimens. Conscious of biohazard safety as it relates to the job; use of the pneumatic tube system, manual delivery of specimens to main lab, disposal of blood specimens, changing of gloves. Ability to identify issues and processes requiring improvement. Ability to find, organize and use resources to improve outcomes. Responds to reports of unusual problems, questions or complaints.
Qualifications
Will consider entry level graduates of an approved associate degree program in an appropriate science field and eligibility as medical technologist. Able to communicate effectively, pleasantly, cooperatively and discreetly with patients, physicians, hospital employees and the public. Able to work under pressure. Willingness to increase knowledge of laboratory/hospital functions. Demonstrates creativity and initiative in problem solving.

Founded in 1916 by two physician brothers, Drs. James Beebe and Richard C. Beebe, the medical center in Lewes is a 210-licensed-bed, not-for-profit seaside community hospital. Beebe's specialized service lines include cardiac and vascular, surgical services, oncology, women's health, and orthopaedic services.
