Job Summary
Denver Health Medical Center is recruiting a Pediatric Surgeon to join our team. The successful candidate will be fellowship trained in Pediatric Surgery and join a team of pediatric, trauma, and general surgeons caring for our community. The scope of practice for this position will include 1) elective and urgent pediatric surgery and 2) pediatric trauma surgery at our Adult Level I and Pediatric Level II trauma center. There are also leadership opportunities within both the division and our trauma program, as well as participation in our accredited adolescent bariatric surgery center.
The Ernest E. Moore Shock Trauma Center at Denver Health is an internationally renowned, American College of Surgeons Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma center, with over 3,000 patient evaluations annually. Among other services, the trauma center specializes in chest wall reconstruction, retrograde balloon occlusion of the aorta, and extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation. The Trauma Center is actively engaged in a number of research projects, and publishes over 200 peer reviewed articles annually.
The Denver Health Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) is a twenty-three-bed intensive care unit staffed by surgeons who are board certified in surgical critical care. Patient acuity is high and involves derangement of multiple organ system simultaneously. Attending on both trauma and SICU services involves serving as faculty for both our Trauma and Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical Care Fellowships.
The Emergency General Surgery (EGS) Service at Denver Health performs over 1,000 operations annually, maintains an average daily census of fourteen patients, and spans all aspects and scope within this field. The EGS service is currently attended by seven trauma surgeons, two general surgeons, and our two, second years TACS fellows. The service engages in classic EGS, as well as emerging techniques such as minimally invasive treatments of diverticulitis and perforated peptic ulcers, endo luminal stents and vacuum therapy (endo-VAC), and laparoscopic, trans cystic common bile duct clearance. Other areas of focus include esophageal perforation, management of bariatric complications (in conjunction with our accredited bariatric center), and both thoracic and lumbar spine exposure..
Denver Health serves as a satellite site for several fellowships, residency programs, and medical schools; education of residents is a core responsibility of our surgical faculty. The pediatric surgeon will diagnose and provide operative care for a variety of illnesses, diseases, and health conditions in young patients.
Examine young patients and diagnosing health issues for surgery. (20%)
Order preoperative tests and physical examinations and interpreting results. (10%)
Consult with patients and family members regarding diagnosis and treatment options. (20%)
Perform surgical procedures to correct deformations, congenital problems, injuries, or treat illnesses. (20%)
Collaborate and cooperating with all the specialists involved in a child's medical care to determine when or if surgery is an appropriate treatment option. (15%)
Monitor postoperative recovery and educating family members regarding postoperative care. (10%)
Comfort young patients before operations. (5%)
Education:
Doctorate Degree Medical degree from an accredited institution. Required
Licenses:
MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required and
BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required
PALS-Pediatric Advanced Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques.
Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care.
