Licensed midwives in the community birth setting care for clients during the course of prenatal, labor, postpartum, and newborn care. Additionally, midwives provide inclusive well-person care, comprehensive family planning services, support shared decision-making and physiologic birth, and participate in quality assurance functions in accordance with practice policies and accreditation standards as dictated by the Commission for Accreditation of Birth Centers (CABC).
The full-time Staff Midwife will have two (2) nine-hour office days and four to eight (4-8) twelve hour (12-hour) call shifts per week, dependent on practice volume, including rotating weekend call. Twelve (12) hour shifts may be scheduled consecutively as our practice does 125-150 births/year so is a relatively low-volume center. Although this position involves significant call, the midwife can expect to attend an average of approximately four to six (4-6) eight (8)-hour labors per month.
Our birth center is committed to addressing inequities in healthcare for marginalized people—including but not limited to people of color and LGBTQAI+ people. Because we believe firmly these communities must be centered in the work we do, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or members of other marginalized communities to apply, even if they do not have experience providing care in the community birth setting. We value new graduate midwives and will offer appropriate compensation, even when a prolonged orientation period is required.
