In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following: BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR PHYSICIAN U.S. Citizen Degree of doctor of medicine: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: (1) Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or (2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. (3) For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or American Osteopathic Association, or other residences which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided appropriate professional training. Licensure: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States or in the District of Columbia. The Physician must maintain a current registration to continue employment with the VA. BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR HEALTH SCIENCE OFFICER: U.S. Citizen Successful completion of a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. DEMONSTRATED LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess extensive leadership experience in the health care arena sufficient to qualify for the equivalent of a senior executive position within the Federal service, including significant experience in medical care and research of all types. In addition, the incumbent is broadly acquainted with clinical treatment modalities, administrative and clinical support systems and is knowledgeable about multifaceted health care delivery systems and their relationship to external review organizations and academic medical centers as well as hospital and service level operations. In addition to basic requirements, the following technical and executive core qualifications are required for this position. Typically, these qualifications would be gained through education, experience and training which reflect progressive development and achievement in responsible management/executive level assignments in health care at a national or Network level; Positions within the Veterans Health Administration such as Associate Chief of Staff for Research, Associate Chief of Staff, or Chief of Staff; similar or equivalent positions in a hospital/network/regional office or allied medical care facility; or executive position in research administration in an academic institution such as Vice Provost for Research, Dean of Research, or Dean of Medicine. An individual's total experience and education must demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position. If you are currently a federal employee, this type of experience is typically found at positions at the GS-15 level and above. Typically, this will be reflected by grant funding as a principal investigator on medical research studies, peer reviewed publications in scientific and medical journals, service on scientific review committees for granting agencies (e.g., National Institutes of Health), and member on journal review boards for medical/research journals. Experience in leading and managing a large public or private sector research program consisting of geographically dispersed facilities of varying complexity. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: For Physicians - Board certification in one or more medical specialties. Experience in the management of large research programs within a healthcare setting. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: Most of the work performance is at a desk, in an office setting. The incumbent often carries books and papers to and from meetings and conferences. It is highly likely that the incumbent may have to travel between office buildings for meetings, which will involve going outside during various elements of weather. The DCRADO-ISRM is one of several deputies who support the CRADO in administering the research program, serving as an advisor and partner in the leadership of the office, and advancing an overall enterprise approach to VA research. The incumbent acts as confidential advisor to the CRADO on matters requiring executive knowledge, judgment, and political and policy sensitivity. The incumbent may be asked to serve as Acting CRADO during the Chief Officer's absences from the office and thus, should have the full confidence of the CRADO in conducting the overall programs in ORD. Importantly, the incumbent works closely with other DCRADOs and program directors in achieving the goals of the VA research program. The DCRADO for ISRM should have experience in leading teams, creating a positive work culture and employee engagement, and in conducting biomedical, translational, clinical, rehabilitation or health services research. The incumbent should possess a high degree of judgement, motivation, self-direction, and initiative in collaboratively leading the day-to-day activities of a large, distributed research organization. The incumbent oversees the vast majority of the research funded by ORD, which spans a range of disciplines (basic, clinical, health services, and rehabilitation) and research topics (ranging from health equity to neurotrauma, oncology, and kidney disease). Research is supported through a combination of program directed and investigator-initiated research utilizing a peer-review process to evaluate research proposals."]
The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is the largest integrated health care system in the United States, providing care at 1,321 health care facilities, including 172 VA Medical Centers and 1,138 outpatient sites of care of varying complexity (VHA outpatient clinics) to over 9 million Veterans enrolled in the VA health care program.
