Job Summary
The Duke Inpatient Neurosurgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides direct patient care services to neurosurgery patients for all age groups (adult and pediatric) in collaboration with the attending physicians, fellows, residents and other APPs. The APP performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, coordinates care, and provides direct patient care services. The APP contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and provides leadership to the organization.
100% inpatient
No operating room responsibilities
No on-call responsibilities
Includes pediatric and adult patient covering all neurosurgical patient including tumor, spine and, neurovascular

Procedures performed:
Lumbar Puncture
Lumbar Drain management
Shunt flow study
Shunt adjustment
Wound closure
Shunt / Reservoir Tap
Job Eligibility Requirements
Education
NP: Graduate of DNP or MSN Nurse Practitioner program for acute care adult and pediatric care.
PA: Graduate of ARC accredited Physician Assistant program
Licensure
NP: Current unrestricted RN license issued by or recognized by the NCBON with authorization to practice as an NP.
PA: Current unrestricted license issued by NCMB with authorization to practice as a PA.
Certification
NP: Dual certification required in both Adult Acute Care and Pediatrics or Family Medicine, i.e., ACNP or AGACNP + FNP or PNP
PA: PA-C
Experience
One year APP experience is preferred but not required.
Job Hours
10-11 twelve hours shifts per month
