Are you a dedicated Surgical Oncologist looking to make a significant impact? Inova Fairfax Medical Campus invites you to join our thriving Division of Surgical Oncology, which is currently experiencing remarkable growth. As a full-time member of our team, you'll have the opportunity to partner with two fellowship-trained surgical oncologists and three endocrine surgeons, while collaborating in a multi-specialty environment that includes experts in breast surgery, colorectal surgery, thoracic surgery, and non-liver transplant surgery.
Our Division of Surgical Oncology is expanding with continued clinical growth in hepatopancreatobiliary (benign and malignant) diseases, upper gastrointestinal cancers, soft tissue sarcoma, and melanoma. You'll play a pivotal role in our regionally dominant melanoma program and have the opportunity to expand our HIPEC program. Benefit from comprehensive clinical support, including outpatient clinic nurses, advanced practice providers (APPs), surgical oncology nurse navigators, and collaborative multi-disciplinary clinics. Inova Schar Cancer is a CoC-accredited Integrated Network Cancer Program.

Surgical Oncologist Job Responsibilities:
- Conducting physical examinations and reviewing medical history to assess potential cancer cases.
- Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests like biopsies, imaging scans (CT, MRI), and blood tests to confirm cancer diagnosis.
- Developing individualized surgical plans based on cancer type, tumor location, and patient health.
- Discussing surgical risks and benefits with patients and their families.
- Executing complex cancer surgeries to remove tumors, including radical resections, minimally invasive procedures, and reconstructive surgeries depending on the cancer type.
- Performing lymph node dissection when necessary to assess cancer spread.
- Monitoring patients closely during recovery, managing complications, and providing pain management.
- Coordinating follow-up care with other healthcare providers, including medical oncologists and radiation therapists.
- Working closely with a team of specialists including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, and radiologists to develop comprehensive treatment plans.
- Participating in tumor boards to discuss complex cases and treatment strategies.
- Participating in clinical trials to evaluate new cancer treatments and surgical techniques.
- Teaching and mentoring medical students and surgical residents
Additional Requirements:
- Education: Doctor of Medicine degree from an accredited institution
- Experience: Successful completion of physician residency program
- Certification: Board Certified/Eligible in Surgery and Complex General Surgical Oncology
