Job Summary:
Provide oversight, coordination, and organization of clinical and administrative operations of perioperative and endoscopy activities to meet departmental, hospital and health system objectives related to the provision of patient care within the clinical areas and the specialty.
In collaboration with perioperative system leadership and local executive leadership, develop strategic and operational plans for clinical areas assuring a high quality of standards of clinical practice.
Maintain open lines of communication with providers to identify barriers and opportunities for improvement
Assumes budgetary and fiscal accountability managing resources ensuring that the department operates efficiently and effectively.
Ensures effective communication and coordination of initiatives among various hospital and perioperative councils, the nursing infrastructure and medical staff committee councils and work groups. Responsible for leading and managing staff to ensure that they are motivated, engaged, and performing at their best.
In collaboration with the medical directors of anesthesia and surgery, develop and communicate vision for current specialty unit care delivery models and facilitate ongoing refinement of such models, including block schedules.
Provide direction to management staff within areas of responsibility, including supporting plan development, priority-setting, decision-making and professional development.
Serve as clinical operational liaison with administrative and professional personnel concerning unit, hospital and health system policies and procedures, personnel administration.
Develop/monitor programs to facilitate meeting goals of department, hospital, and health system.
Participate in DUHS Periop Quality/Safety Oversight Committee and be responsible for developing, implementing, measuring and sustaining quality improvement initiatives to ensure that patient care is continuously improving. Establishes plans, and priorities and manages the performance improvement process for staff in defined areas.
Plan for and ensure competent care for patients and families.
Ensure a safe environment of care for all staff, patients, and families.
Ensure effective processes for staff development, recruitment, and retention.
In collaboration with the clinical operations director, develop and support shared governance structure within perioperative services. Provide oversight and direction to clinical units in developing specialty practice councils. Assure staff participation and accountability in departmental and organized nursing structures.
Responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures that ensure the highest quality of patient care and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Implements clinical practice guidelines, as needed. Provides a framework for developing, implementing, reviewing, and revising these guidelines in defined areas of responsibility in collaboration with other senior perioperative leaders.
Remain current with local trends and changes in nursing professional/practice in health environment. Ensure department/staff meet TJC, NC Board of Nursing and other regulatory/licensure requirements.

Experience: at least six years of progressive leadership in a acute perioperative environment, with at least three years of experience as a nurse manager of operations.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of NorthCarolina.BLS certification required.Nurses hired into l eadership positions must obtain a nursing leadershipcertification within one year of hire.
