Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Duties

• The Senior Social Worker serves as a Grant and Per Diem (GPD) Program Liaison in the Social Work Service at the Long Beach VAMC
• Incumbent utilizes clinical skills to meet program and specialized Veteran population served
• coordination, planning and administrative documentation to assure programs meet the GPD objectives and compliance

• Verify veteran status and eligibility of program participants
• Verify admission and discharge dates of program participants for billing purposes
• Providing oversight of GPD funded program participants and, at times, case management of those participants at sites where organizations are receiving per diem payments
• Conduct clinical and environmental inspections to ensure grant compliance
• Ensure that community providers and their clinical documentation is in compliance with local VA medical center policy and procedure
• Provide mentoring and oversight to Peer support staff assigned to teams
• Collects and submits participant data as outlined by program procedures
• Other duties as assigned
• Physical Requirements: Must be in overall good health, able to sit at a desk working at a computer, engage in moderate physical activity including sitting, walking, bending, and carrying supplies
• Must be able to perform primarily light and sedentary duties with occasionally moderate physical demands, exercise patience, and control emotions, with reasonable accommodation, if necessary, without endangering the health and safety of the applicant or others
• Requires use of federal vehicles for the delivery of community-based services
• Must be medically cleared and trained before operating a federal vehicle, pursuant to VHA Directive 2008- 020
• All Social Workers who are required to use federal vehicles for their duties are REQUIRED TO BE CERTIFIED as an Incidental Driver
• May require a history review and if pertinent issues, may need to submit to a physical to be certified as an Incidental Driver
• VA's are required to have current employee's and new hires who operate government vehicles and/or transport Veterans participate in periodic examinations every three - four years
• As part of the certification, Incidental Drivers are required to be evaluated or examined as determined by Occupational Health
• There are no specific required lab tests however, during the medical history taking exam, the Examiner is required to evaluate any condition reasonably and adequately before providing the medical clearance
• If the Supervisory Social Worker has a chronic medical condition that may impact safe use of a federal vehicle, the Examiner may ask the employee to be examined or for copies of the treating doctors' notes
