The Senior Director and Nursing Officer, Ambulatory Services at UCLA Health is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing clinical excellence, scope of practice, and professional development for nursing and clinical staff across 280+ ambulatory clinics, including both licensed and non-licensed ambulatory clinics. This leader works closely with the Chief Medical Officer for Ambulatory Care and Ambulatory Operations Leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care in the ambulatory setting. Specifically, the Ambulatory Nursing Leader is responsible for the clinical competency and performance excellence of clinical staff in ambulatory clinics, including but not limited to RNs, LVNs, MAs. As such, this leader supervises key functions such as practice standards for clinical staff, training, and education programs to ensure top of license care delivery, and seamless care coordination, regulatory compliance, and the continuous improvement of clinical workflows.
In addition to direct oversight of clinical ambulatory staff, the Senior Director, Ambulatory Nursing provides strategic guidance for broader clinical and operational efforts. This role contributes to strategic discussions regarding ongoing improvement and iteration of the clinical care model in ambulatory care. They collaborate with service line leaders, community partners, and interdisciplinary teams to align goals, standardize protocols, and address healthcare disparities. Key responsibilities include managing scope-of-service changes, overseeing clinical policies, and ensuring licensing. Through strategic planning, hands-on training, and incident trend analysis, this role fosters a culture of safety, quality, and innovation across the health system. By focusing on both individual programs and system-wide initiatives, this leader plays a vital role in advancing UCLA Health’s mission to deliver world-class care while maintaining a supportive and enriching environment for staff and patients alike.
Salary range: $177,100-436,100 annual
Qualifications
RN License State of CA
Nurse ExecutiveAdvanced Certification (NEA-BC)
BSN required; Masters or Doctorate in Nursing or Equivalent preferred
Progressive nursing leadership experience with at least 5 years in academic medical center with high level or organizational and hospital/ambulatory responsibility
Extensive knowledge of clinic/center patient care management
Highly developed knowledge of appropriate professional standards for a multidisciplinary team
Highly developed knowledge of patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of services
Advanced communications and interpersonal skills to promote an effective model of shared governance among multiple disciplines
Ability to motivate and engage all levels of staff in regards to patient care programs, strategies, and organizational mission and values
Advanced leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills
Ability to develop nurse / clinical leaders in their adoption and promotion of a shared governance model of collaboration
Ability to develop a systems strategic plan and implement vision across a large, complex organization
