Program Overview:
This is a fantastic opportunity to kickstart your healthcare career with our Earn as You Learn program! As a student, you will be paid while you learn.
The program provides entry-level telemetry technicians with a comprehensive understanding of electrocardiography (ECG) and telemetry monitoring principles. You'll receive hands-on training and mentorship in the critical role of monitor technicians, who are vital to patient care by monitoring vital signs and ensuring patient safety in various medical settings.
What You Will Learn:
- Identify and respond to major life-threatening rhythms
- Monitor non-invasive and arterial blood pressure
- Effectively interpret telemetry data
- Use advanced medical equipment to monitor heart rates, rhythms, and vital signs
Cohort Program Details:
- Length: 11 weeks (Full-Time, In-Person) - - must be available to attend class in-person entire time of class program
- Start Date: April 21, 2025
- End Date: June 28, 2025
- Location: William J. Harrison Education Center, 3140 Cass Ave, St. Louis, MO 63106 & BJC Commons Building, 4249 Clayton Ave, St. Louis, MO 63110
- Schedule:
- First 8 Weeks: Monday - Friday, Full-Time; hours vary between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM
- Final 3 Weeks: Scheduled for three 12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
- Compensation: $16.00 per hour for all student cohorts, with potential promotion upon successful program completion
- Application Deadline: March 10, 2025 – after this date no longer will be accepting applications
Post-Program Opportunities:
- Candidates will be eligible for pay rate increases after completing the program and will be placed into a Full-Time Monitor Technician role.

Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be at least 18 years old
- One-year commitment: Candidates must complete the program and commit to working at BJC for one year afterward
Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
- Strong interest in pursuing a career in the medical field
- Willingness to learn and participate in the training program
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Basic computer skills and comfort with technology and medical equipment
- Experience in a healthcare setting (e.g., patient care or customer service)

Overview

Centralized Telemetry, a department in which trained monitor technicians observe and analyze various heart rhythms of patients who are admitted to the Centralized Telemetry Monitoring system. Technicians monitor patients within BJH North and South, as well as, BJ West County. Constant communication with nursing staff regarding changes in rhythm status is key to patient care. Technicians will call CODES if lethal rhythms are detected for patient safety and positive outcome of patient condition
Preferred Qualifications
Role Purpose
Provides customer-focused telemetry monitoring and interpretation of cardiac rhythms with an average of 48 patients per shift to ensure the prompt and accurate delivery of care vital to patients with cardiac arrhythmias, suspected arrhythmias, drug intervention per floor with need for observation, and potential of life-threatening cardiac events. Initiates code and rapid response teams for patients at risk of death or serious harm. Collaborates with health care providers to initiate, monitor and communicate findings during video monitoring of patients at risk of harm due to medical conditions. Assists with delivery and maintenance of inventory, including inventory storage, cleaning and troubleshooting.
