The University of Minnesota's Department of Rehabilitation Medicine invites a passionate, dynamic academic physiatrist to join our growing Division of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) as a full-time Medical Director of a 30-bed, CARF-accredited, comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation facility within a large academic healthcare center. This is an exceptional opportunity to be part of a multidisciplinary, patient-focused program within the M Health Fairview system.

As the Acute Rehabilitation Center (ARC) Medical Director, you will play a pivotal role in serving as a clinical leader to help ensure that exceptional patient care is delivered by fostering positive collaboration among care teams through open communication. The ideal candidate will have experience providing leadership in the inpatient setting, driving the performance of key clinical metrics, and treating complex medical conditions. Additionally, you will contribute to the training and mentorship of the next generation of academic medicine professionals.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Leadership & Oversight: Act as the clinical leader of a multidisciplinary team, working collaboratively with the leadership team to organize and oversee physiatry services, ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards. Dedicate a minimum of 20 hours per week to direct patient care at the rehabilitation center, with additional protected administrative time allocated to support leadership responsibilities, program development, and quality improvement initiatives.
Performance & Quality Improvement: Work closely with leadership and staff to develop, monitor, and maintain key performance metrics, process improvements, and quality and safety initiatives.
Hospital Collaboration: Act as a liaison with hospital teams to address critical needs, including capacity management and operational challenges.
Representation & Communication: Represent the ARC in hospital and departmental meetings, effectively communicate key updates, and participate in problem-solving efforts to enhance unit operations.
Regulatory & Compliance Support: Coordinate and oversee preparations for accreditation surveys and regulatory inspections.
Patient-Centered Care: Serve as a role model in delivering comprehensive, patient-centered rehabilitation care. Participate in call coverage for the acute rehabilitation unit on a rotating basis and provide cross-coverage for inpatient services as needed.
Partnership & Relationship Building: Establish and maintain strong relationships with referring departments and units to enhance patient experience and clinical outcomes.
Teaching & Mentorship: Engage in the teaching and mentorship of trainees, including medical students, residents, fellows, visiting students, and other allied health professionals, fostering their clinical and professional development.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
* Completion of an accredited PM&R residency training program.
* Board-certified or board-eligible with the American Board of PM&R (ABPM&R).
* Have at least two (2) years of training, or experience, in the medical management of inpatients requiring rehabilitation services.
* Licensed or ability to obtain and/or maintain Minnesota Board of Medical Practice licensure.
* Ability to obtain and/or maintain DEA certification for the State of Minnesota.
* Meet threshold criteria and qualifications for credentialing and privileging.
* Excellent teaching and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Previous experience as an inpatient rehabilitation facility medical director.
* Previous experience with, and knowledge of, CMS rules and regulations.
* Expertise in CARF accreditation processes and ensuring compliance with Joint Commission.

Pay and Benefits
This role is dually employed by University of Minnesota Physicians and the University of Minnesota. Total salary is market competitive and based on AAMC salary benchmarks. Clinical salary, aligned with clinical effort, is provided through M Physicians. The base salary range for this position is $218,458 to $329,980 commensurate with experience, qualifications, and cFTE. The salary from the University is dependent upon the academic effort of the person hired.
