As a Palliative Care Physician at Mercy Health, you will play a vital role in delivering comprehensive, compassionate care to patients facing serious illness. You will provide both inpatient care and follow-up services in our specialized palliative care clinic. This is a an opportunity to guide patients and families through a difficult time in their lives, while ensuring continuity of care in a collaborative, and supportive environment. Additionally, you will contribute to the education and mentorship of medical students, residents, and NP/PA students, shaping the next generation of healthcare providers.
Key Responsibilities:
Inpatient Care: Provide palliative care consultations to hospitalized patients, addressing complex symptom management, advance care planning, and emotional support for patients and families.
Outpatient Care: Conduct follow-up visits in the palliative care clinic, collaborating with referring providers and ensuring continuity of care.
Consultation and Care Plan Development: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients in both hospital and outpatient settings.
Telehealth/Virtual Care: Utilize current virtual health platforms to provide follow-up care, patient monitoring, and remote consultations as needed.
Teaching & Education: Provide education to medical students, residents, and NP/PA students in palliative care, including direct teaching during clinical rotations and formal lectures.
Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare providers (e.g., physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains) to ensure comprehensive care. Maintain strong communication with referring providers to facilitate coordinated care.
Workload & Volume:
Anticipated patient volume: 10-12 patients per day (with an average of 30 patients on service).
Coverage provided by a team of 3 Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs) to assist with patient management and follow-up care.
Qualifications:
Board-certified in Palliative Medicine or equivalent.
Experience in providing care for patients with serious illness and complex symptom management.
Commitment to teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and NP/PA students.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, both with patients and interdisciplinary care teams.

Dedicated CMAs/LPNs, administrative staff, APPs, clinic nurses, and office personnel within the palliative care clinic.
