The Hearing Instrument Specialistprovides consistent, effective, and high-quality services to individuals with hearing loss. S/he serves as the contact person for individuals with hearing loss, provides hearing aid dispensing, including selection, fitting, ongoing management with follow-up and education, and collaborates closely with vendors, and the professional community.

Candidate Requirements:
Position Requirements
Knowledge and Education
High school diploma or GED
AAS in Hearing Instrument Specialist preferred
Hearing Instrument Specialist licensure as required by state law
Successfully completion of the state licensing requirements for Hearing Instrument Fitter/ Dispenser.
Skills
Excellent people skills that allow effective working relationships with diverse patient, colleague, and vendor populations, including listening, sales, and critical thinking skills.
Strong keyboard/computer/Audiology diagnostic and hearing aid software and equipment experience
Ability to operate fine-motor tools related to hearing aid cleaning, maintenance, and repair
Ability to organize time and prioritize multiple duties within strict deadlines and deal with interruptions
Exhibit outstanding care and respect when working with patients
Exceptional attention to detail
Essential Job Functions
Counsels patients regarding test results
Reviews and recommends products for hearing care options
Thoroughly explain the actual and realistic expected results and capabilities of the hearing instrument in restoration of the patient’s hearing
Provides hearing aid dispensing, including selection, fitting, ongoing management with follow-up, and education
Demonstrates and sells Assisted Listening Devices (ALD’s), batteries, and other special products
Provides appropriate validation and verification of hearing aids
Performs hearing aid service checks
Assists customers with exchanges or returns as needed
Involved in clinical quality outcomes, including efficiency and productivity
Follows good safety and infection control protocols
