Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University is a public medical school in Stony Brook, New York. It is part of Stony Brook University, a flagship of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, one of 71 members of the Association of American Universities (AAU), and one of the nation's premier centers for academic and healthcare excellence. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Medicine, the Chair will lead a talented team of researchers and educators, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment that encourages scientific discovery, academic excellence, and faculty development. The Chair will set and execute a strategic vision to advance the department's research portfolio and enhance its scholarly and scientific reputation. Key responsibilities include recruiting and retaining high-caliber faculty, mentoring faculty to support their professional growth, and driving interdisciplinary research initiatives. Additionally, the Chair will work to enhance academic programs, promote a culture of inclusivity and collaboration, secure funding and resources, and represent the department within the broader educational and medical communities, both internally and externally.

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished researcher and educator with a proven track record of contributing to research and teaching goals. Given the broad nature of the field, the department welcomes candidates from diverse backgrounds beyond Physiology and Biophysics, including but not limited to Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology, and related disciplines. A PhD or MD/PhD (or foreign equivalent) is required, and the candidate must meet the criteria for a senior faculty position as set by the School of Medicine. This position requires a dedication to scientific and academic excellence, offering the chance to significantly influence the future direction of the department and the institution.
