Occ Summary
Perform a variety of routine and complex techn icalaboratoryand may be composed of a combination of the following dutie s athe diagnosisand treatment of disease. Job duties are dependent on t hel tasks in theperformance of laboratory tests to obtain data for use i nndresponsibilities related to the specialization.
Work Perf ormed
Perform a variety of tests in clinical laboratories using s tandardtechniques and equipment; perform related duties in the laborator ytoinclude specimen handling, using manual and automatic equipment to te stspecimens, and perform and report analytical tests.Operate manual or c omputerized instrumentation. Calibrate and maintaininstrumentation accor ding to standard operating procedures.Process patient samples for testin g using appropriate identificationtechniques and written procedures to e nsure quality material fortesting.Perform basic troubleshooting of assay problems as directed by seniorstaff. Communicate problems/issues to appr opriate individuals.Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.Partici pate in the development of new medical laboratory tests andtechniques.Pa rticipate in the preparation for lab inspections. Review labinspectiondo cuments and procedures to maintain knowledge. Bring anynon-complianceiss ues to the attention of upper level staff.Perform proficiency testingas directed to maintain compliance withregulatory agencies.Document quality control and quality assurance results. Notify upperlevel personnelof in strument malfunctions or unusual or unexpected dataor results.Review wri tten procedures and policies for accuracy and submit changesto manager o r designee.Understand, comply, and perform with all necessary safety pro cedures.Maintain compliance with safety training. Report all safetyincid entswithin 24 hours.Attend all laboratory meetings, safety and complianc e training asrequired.Comply with competency testing procedures for the laboratory staff.Train new staff. Serve as a resource person/rolemodel, as perguidelines determined by laboratory management. Complywithto stud ents, interns,residents, staff and other employees. Perform otherlaborat orytraining programs.Provide technical guidance and instructionrelated d utiesincidental to the work described herein.Use behaviors that support achievement of balanced scorecard targets andsupport DUHS values. Consis tently cooperate and communicate effectivelywith co-workers toensure eff ective workflow.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's of Science/Bachelor of Arts in Chemical, Physical, Biological or Clinical Laboratory Science; or Medical Technology required. Minimum educational or experience requirements may be modified on a on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment) director if minimal CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment) requirements are met by the employee for the tasks being performed.
