We areseeking a dedicated professional with:

·       CTRcertification required.

·       Prefer5+ years abstracting experience.

·       Experienceworking in a Cancer Registry or taking Cancer Registry classes, and/orCTR-eligible.

·       Excellentorganizational skills in maintaining Cancer Data files and conducting annualfollow up of cancer data center patients.

·       Excellentdata entry skills with a high degree of accuracy.

·       Skillin prioritizing and performing a variety of duties within a system that hasconstantly changing assignments, priorities, and deadlines.

·       Detailedknowledge of laws, rules and regulations affecting the confidentiality ofmedical information, and the release of medical information.

·       Skillin working independently and following through on assignments in an environmentwith frequent interruptions.

·       Abilityto develop and maintain effective, credible working relationships withemployees at all levels of the organization, administration, and the medicalstaff.

·       Excellentcommunication skills in contacting patients and answering patient questions.

·       Demonstratedability in working as a team and collaborating with colleagues.

·       Skillin writing legibly and using basic English grammar to complete concisedocumentation.

·       Skillin speaking clearly and distinctly using appropriate vocabulary and grammar toobtain and convey information to individuals at various organizational levelsand to the general public.

·       Abilityto work independently and exercise appropriate decisions in determining followup actions and complete assignments in a timely manner.

·       Abilityto judge system/procedure malfunctions/discrepancies and circumstances to bereported to supervisor for immediate action.

·       Basicknowledge of the California Cancer Registry (CCR), SEER Reporting requirements,and Commission on Cancer requirements.

·       Workingknowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.

·       Knowledgeof the ICD-0 coding classification scheme, or other diagnostic codingclassification scheme such as ICD-9 or ICD-10.

·       Workingknowledge of a medical record, and how to interpret the contents of a record.

·       Abilityto abstract clinical and demographic information from patient records and enteraccurately into Cancer Data center database.

·       Knowledgeof CNEXT database.

·       Workingknowledge of computers and their applicability in the management of healthinformation. Ability to use hospital systems including but not limited to Word,Excel, and Outlook.

·       BasicWorking knowledge of a large university research hospital: its purpose,functions, and internal/external relationships.

·       Knowledgeand understanding of functions and activities of hospital departments contactedfor source information to expeditiously coordinate follow up procedures.
