Job Description

Bioinformatics Software Engineer II

Exciting Opportunity at MSK

We are seeking a Bioinformatics Software Engineer II to join our team. In this role you will provide support to research projects at the Center by designing, developing, and implementing software tools and applications for processing and analyzing clinical and high-throughput biomedical data. In addition, will provide one-on-one consultation and training in software development and scripting languages to research scientists and bioinformatics and software engineers at the Center.

Role Overview:

• Design and develop software and databases as part of bioinformatics and biomedical informatics data storage, visualization, processing, and analysis systems.
• Design and implement features (algorithms, data structures, database access, visualization, user interface) and add modifications to existing mathematical/scientific applications.
• Responsible for program design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation.
• Evaluate, install, and maintain data and software.
• Provide consultation and guidance to research scientists, as well as other bioinformatics and software engineers, at the Center.
• Train researchers in software development and scripting languages and develop training modules.

Key Qualifications:

• Systematic approach with analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills to develop and modify internal software as well as installing software.
• Proficient scripting languages such as Perl, Python, Ruby
• Knowledge of web application development, both client side (Javascript, HTML, CSS) and server side (Java, Python, Ruby on Rails)
• Knowledge of relational databases or big data tools, such as MYSQL, DB2, Pyspark or Pandas.
• Knowledge of Linux Shell Scripting
• Proficient in object-oriented programming
• Proficient with software design principles
• Proficient with algorithms
• Knowledge of testing process
• Knowledge of operating system concepts
• 2-4 years' experience with bioinformatics methods.

Core Skills:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to contribute to a multi-disciplinary team and to provide technical expertise and advice to researchers and other software/bioinformatics engineers.
• A willingness and ability to stay updated with new technologies and methods.
• Ability to work well on a team.

Additional Information:

• Location: 633 Third Ave. NY
• Reporting to the Manager of Bioinformatics
• Schedule: Hybrid once or twice a month on site

Pay Range: $98,500-$157,600
