The Staff Research Associate [SRA 2] will provide technical, scientific, and organizational assistance in the day-to-day tissue processing, histology, and tissue distribution operations of Autism BrainNet at the UC Davis MIND Institute. The SRA 2 has a strong education or background in histological processing of brain tissue, and effective interpersonal, communication, organizational, and decision-making skills. They will have the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, Biological Psychology or related field
• Demonstrated experience conducting laboratory-based research
• Basic histology skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Demonstrated experience or working knowledge with human or animal brain tissue
• Knowledge of histological principles and basic laboratory techniques
• Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Ability to independently and effectively identify resources to solve problems
• Excellent organization skills, ability to focus and work with multiple interruptions
• Facility with computer programs, such as MS Word, Excel, and Adobe Photoshop
Key Responsibilities
• 80% - PROCESSING OF BRAIN TISSUE
• 15% - LABORATORY MAINTENANCE AND OTHER DUTIES
• 5% - LABORATORY SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE
Special Requirements
• This is a critical position, as defined by UC policy and local procedures, and as such, employment is contingent upon the successful completion of background check(s), including but not limited to criminal record history background check(s)
• This is a position with direct access to or responsibility for controlled substances, high-risk hazardous chemicals, biological or radioactive/nuclear materials
