Summary

Responsible for providing oversight, management, and strategic direction for information technology systems within the Department of Radiation Oncology. These duties include planning, design, operations, and maintenance functions. Collaborate with hospital system senior leadership and technical staff within the University of Maryland Medical System as well as faculty and staff within the Department of Radiation Oncology to ensure seamless delivery of high-quality care to cancer patients. Work is performed under general direction. Direct report to the Vice Chair for Medical Physics and Sr. Sr Director Radiation Oncology Operations.

Responsibilities and Tasks

• Lead the support, maintenance, and operations of the information systems infrastructure within the department.
• Design and implement system architecture and provide management and oversight of ongoing technical support and maintenance for information technology system hardware and software.
• Provide strategic direction and leadership to the department IT team for all aspects of systems administration to maximize uptime to ensure efficient clinical operations.
• Identify opportunities for leveraging technology to optimize technology functions and improve efficiency.
• Oversee benchmarking and trend analysis to drive continuous process improvement, elevate service performance and maintain high operations efficiency.
• Provide project management for various department information technology projects.
• Develop and implement effective control process and compliance monitoring procedures to ensure risks are measured, monitored, controlled, and mitigated.
• Consult with department leadership on an ongoing basis to establish strategic goals and objectives, and to develop policies/procedures for the department.
• Collaborate with customers to complete project documentation in accordance with department project management standards; partner with customers to ensure projects are aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
• Establishes standards of performance and productivity; determine staffing requirements in conjunction with the Senior Leadership. Prepare activity and project progress reports and cost estimates for current and proposed projects.
• Assist senior leadership with developing the IT department budget, prioritize new projects and hardware/software upgrades, provide associated capital expenditures for projects.
• Maintain appropriate records and statistics for administrative and regulatory purposes.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations that govern technology, including security, accessibility, and privacy laws.
• Establish and maintain proactive relationships as a trusted advisor to the most senior levels of leadership regarding informatics technology solutions.
• Establish comprehensive performance metrics and reporting to evaluate team performance to ensure goals and objectives are being met.
• Identify and resolve operational and performance gaps and obstacles; recommend/implement changes and improvements.
• Provide forward thinking technical expertise in current and emerging technologies, trends, and best practices.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, problem solving, innovation, continuous learning, and a one team mindset.
• Mentor staff in both technical and soft skills to craft a team of highly competent, consistent, thoughtful, and customer-centric technology experts.
• Promote and encourage professional growth and development of personnel through attendance at in-services, workshops and seminars.
• Evaluate personnel effectiveness and develop/implement training programs to improve performance.
• Oversee and perform managerial functions including hiring, discipline, training and development, and preparing performance reviews in accordance with UMMS policies and procedures.
